Hi guys, here is my latest absolute 'masterpiece' ;) It's a cover of Bye Bye Bird. After hearing Hakan's version I wanted to do my own but also make it my own as well, although it is very similar. I also tried to tongue switch here, something I have been practising lately as I have never used it in a youtube video before. Hope it sounds good! For example, I tried to tongue switch when it changes to the IV chord in the second 12 bar progression. It took a couple of attempts till I was happy, but I like the way it sounds. Definitely a cool technique. I also tried to do octaves on the side to side thingy that everyone seems to love when they hear it lol (those who don't know what it is ;) ) and although that was a shot in the dark it sort of worked. Hakan makes it look easy of course but at 160 bpm the first couple of times I found it hard to keep up with the timing. Then I tried to play 'ahead', and it sounded in time. Weird I know :)

Thanks! And thanks pistol cat! I have been playing for a few years, but I always tried to stick to basic techniques for youtube, but often fooled around with stuff while mucking around and so on, so forth. This is the first time I really went for 'quality', rather than 'cool sounding madness' on youtube. Normally when I'm practising I think 'oh that's kinda cool' then try and do it whilst recording and think 'nah it sounds like a wet fart'. So I've always stuck to simple stuff for youtube so I wouldn't embarrass myself! But I have had good responses to my other videos so I thought, ok, I might as well try one of these 'wet fart techniques'... One of the things I have learnt, more than anything, is to know my limits, i.e. I way prefer playing a Bb or C to a D or E as I tend pull a little hard if I get carried away. Here I just went for something with A) one of my favourite harmonicas, B) a generally lazy pace (in comparison). That allowed me to use said 'wet fart techniques' and do them properly without squeezing them in, and I am very pleased with how it turned out. Tongue switching is something I want to use a lot more on youtube, as it's one of my favourite sounds. Looking forward to your next! :)

Fuzzball, I love your version. I've been working on this one too and listened to quite a number on YT, including SBW2. You rock it. ----------

Ya got a good groove goin'.
My only suggestion would be to really dig into the vocals. The vocals/lyric communicate the song. Harmonica is a very close second.
You got the harmonica down...now, don't treat the vocals like a throwaway between harmonica playing. ---------- The Iceman

Thank you so much guys! I do like this song, one of my favourites of all time. All I need is a Cadillac and a whole load of gas to go down Route 66 cos that's what I have always thought of whenever I hear this song ;) Iceman, yeah I know what you mean. I can't sing to save my life lol! Something to work on! I do pride myself on the fact that I can do the 'stayin' alive' bit from the legendary beegees song though.... Might not sound fantastic, but I can get there!! But yes, point taken. :)
