I hope you all saw The Beatles 50yr Grammy Tribute on TV tonight. WOW, what a show. I was in tears thru about half of it. World changing artists songs preformed by some of the greatest musician of my generation. And the Lads still got it! Best production I have seen on TV in recent memory. I was applauding in my living room. Yoko was having a blast! Was honored just to see the show. WOW, SO COOL...BN

I've always thought the Beatles were the most overrated band in history....but that's just me.

I can't stand the Beatles and I don't care for the Rolling Stones either. I'm generally not a fan of British 60's music at all. For me much, much better music was coming out of America in the 60's.

Yeah, not much harmonica on the show tonight.
Stevie, I think that's it.

If you want a course in how to arrange music, study the music of The Beatles.

@ Frank. Yes, its a great song. I actually used to sing that in a band here in New Orleans, called Sheena and the Swamp Dogs. That was about 8 years ago, though. I am putting together a new band with most of the Swamp Dogs, except Sheena, and I think I will bring it back. Thanks for the reminder.

Paul is dead? The Beatles made some great music.

@Johnny Charles. Why? We're all gonna go sometime, and its nothing personal, just an observation based on their individual musical output.

John and George were certainly cooler and made better music, whilst Paul is more prolific, but made a lot of what John Lennon called Granny music. If it were down to music, (its only) Ringo would have gone first.

Also, I should have attributed the original source, Victor Lewis-Smith.

Well, my wife and I were born in 1957 - so Beatles music and its influence spans just about our entire lives. We watched the whole show and enjoyed the hell out of it. Ringo even sang Matchbox Blues!

I was listening to the radio with my 12 year old son when they started playing clips of screaming young Beetles fans. I wondered aloud if this was the first instance of the screaming young female fan phenomenon, and how this compares to the popular boy bands of today.

My son's reply, "The Beetles actually played good music!"

I thought it was great!
Not all the performances were, but how about Jeff lynne singing with George Harrison's son.
When they sang together it sounded like the Beatles.
I thought that was cool!

Ah yes, the "original was way better than the cover" discussion.

Not a discussion-just an opinion. And not saying covers cant be an improvement-Beatles did better with their own stuff( again -opinion)

Did I miss something or did no one mention Stevie playing our instrument during such a big performance. Does anyone know what model of Hohner that was ?

For mine the Beatles strength was in creativity; in songwriting, arrangement and record production. And in that sense, Lennon and McCartney were clearly the vanguard. Their covers don't really rate, except perhaps twist and shout, but that's really gimmick/marketing.
Not to discount that aspect. As a mass media phenomenon they were really something else. Of course, eventually it all disappeared up its own over-extended self-indulgent clacker, but they successfully broke the rules of composition for popular music. I can't think of another act which comes close in those terms.
And Paul McCartney managed to survive, having produced one of the most popular songs of all time. I thank him for 'yesterday' everyday. It really helps me keep my 3 draw half step and full step bends in tune.

@KC69: It wasn't a Hohner. It was a Suzuki Sirius 64.

I don't know what kind of relationship Stevie Wonder has with harmonica companies, but during 2010, he was using Hohner's Super 64X and gave one to Barak Obama.

I don't know if someone like Brendan Power who worked with Suzuki for many years has any knowledge about this? I understand Stevie has his harps tuned high (A:444) and bends down to get his sound, but who as to does this work seems to be an elusive thing. I asked Tony Dannecker about this and all he knew was that someone in Hohner US takes care of this. I also heard once that Chamber Huang used to personally tune Stevie's harps.

It seems that Stevie Wonder keeps all this a mystery in the same way as all his keys stuff.
