Anyone ever noticed this Charlie Christian/Benny Goodman song; Bennys Bugle have parts that sound very similar to J. Geils Whammer Jammer? Especially the beginning.

I also think Magic Dick borrowed some from Sonny Boy "Rice Miller" Williamson's Bye Bye Bird.

I think you're right, Jacketman. When I spoke to Dick about the song a few years back, he made clear that he'd borrowed from Bye Bye Bird and some of Cotton's stuff, and he also talked about jazz. I have no doubt that he borrowed some of his high note stuff from Benny Goodman, and I think you've cracked one more bit of the code.

So the code is still not cracked...that's why this old thing is not aging and remains a LESSON.

Dick is a very thoughtful, guy who considers his actions carefully. My guess is that the borrowings are conscious and deliberate. ---------- Winslow
