The scene is tougher now than ever before. Do it if you have to do it…otherwise, have fun playing, but don’t pursue it as a career. Some of the very greatest musicians I know live their entire lives in real poverty.

A musician is the only person that will :
Load $5000 of equipment
In a $500 car
And drive 100 miles
To make $50.

Not to mention the countless hours perfecting his ( or her ) craft and then get crap from the bar owner for not packing the house. LOL Thats why they be calling it the Blues.
Most all my musician friends have day jobs. Back in the day that was called " Selling out ". Today it's called paying the rent and eating.

WHO said this ...no googling the quote allowed :)

“I don’t have a career anymore. I have a job. This is a job for me, okay? But it’s a job that I love. A career is just a lie. As you’re pumping yourself up, somebody’s trying to make you larger than life. You’re trying to make yourself larger than life. When you have a job, your talent is what makes you larger than life.

Maybe it's not a harp player! And even not a musician from these days...?

O.K. I googled it and yes, it's Kim Wilson.
3 years ago I gave up my 'day job' and rely on playing music to earn a living.
Streets aint paved with gold but I'm certainly in a far better frame of mind nowadays....try it.
cheers, Mark.
