Anybody out there in harp land played a Seydel Solist Pro ? I am not real fond of the 1847 steel reeds. The Solist Pro has a nice lookin mouth piece, brass reeds and is in the middle price range. Wondering how it perform, ie quick response, bends, loudness, comfort, breath.

Yeah...I had 3. I liked the mouthpiece. I had a moustache at the time. You can't play solist pro and have a moustache. Mutually exclusive. And there are cheaper and less painful ways to get rid of unwanted hair. The Eb I used for a particular song that involved a lot of 2-5 splits, lost the 5draw pretty quick. I'd been warned to polish the milling marks from the reeds. I think seydel brass have this reputation, maybe why they push steel. Otherwise, I thought they were ok-ay-ish If I wanted to be clean shaven I could play them I guess I still have an Ab that I don't use but plays ok. I prefer my (completely stock) 1896. I said it plays ok but actually, iirc, that seydel harp has a dodgy reed. Must be ever so slightly misaligned...I recall being annoyed by it sticking. The first time I played it. 1 blow I think. If I could buy them locally, maybe I'd be more likely to play them, but I'd rather any hohner handmade. I didn't have any reall problem with playability other than that sticky reed. It's a while ago though. I could go find it and see what I think, but I expect I've adjusted gaps. I remember being ... Not impressed, not really disappointed...if I'd just bought one, I probably wouldn't have bought another. I had 3 for postal price efficiency. False economy in this case. Other folk I know do like them.

1847's are easy to play , once you are used to .I assume they are far better quality than the solist pro .

I think the Solist Pro is a great harp.. I happen to prefer the narrower covers and I get more and more requests for them lately.
However, don't let the covers (Or the comb for that matter) stand in the way, I offer cover and comb swap for the Solist Pro... if you prefer the full-length or the 1847 style..
By the way, the half-valved Solist Pros play great.. something about the wind savers and a brass reed.. ---------- Greg Jones 16:23 Custom Harmonicas greg@1623customharmonicas.com 1623customharmonicas.com
