So I sent my newly-acquired CBH 2016 to a tech who said he'd worked on those before. This was around a month ago, maybe longer.

The instrument needed quite a bit of work, not to mention tuning. He kept me up to date, telling me exactly what he was doing step by step, and finally the day has come; this afternoon it was delivered to my front door.

I was a bit excited, I have to admit. I have a long history with that model, going all the way back when it first came out and I bought my first one at my teacher, Rob Bonfiglio's, suggestion. Everyone at Turtle Bay Music School played one; the inventor, Cham Ber Wong, was on the staff. I got it at Manny's, the old Manny's in New York. It became my main chromatic, I could wail on that thing.

So as I say I was a little excited. I started playing it; WHOA! A wind-saver went flying out of the thing! Is that really happening? And what the heck is this? Buzzing, rattling reeds, stiff reeds, inconsistent action. The instrument is unplayable; in fact it's worse than when I sent it in.

This is the first time I've ever sent a harmonica away to be repaired. Now I'm wondering, what do I do? Sent it back for the guy to make it right, or demand my money back and find someone else who can work on it?

Dammit.

Tough call, big bummer, hopefully you will be initially diplomatic, and you should find out if this gentlemen takes pride in customer satisfaction. If he was in over his head or just made a mistake, he should admit it,if not,get your money back, and kindly say you found an highly referred and expensive expert with credentials on this model.Best Of Luck

Speak to either Steve Malerbi or Mike Easton. Either one of those guys should be able to help you out or point you in the right direction. Failing that get over to slidemeister.com and ask the guys over there.
