I had the chance to play with one of my all time favorite harp players. What an inspiration! If you're not familiar with Mike, he has a number of fantastic albums available from his website, www.miketurk.com. Best, Ross

Hey Frank, we were just hanging out---chatting and such---and one thing led to another! And he has an old wurli at his place was a little hard to resist! It was a major thrill for me!

Mike was one of the guys brought to SPAH in the late 90's...either to perform or hang out. He was using OB's in recording as early and parallel to Howard Levy.
His chromatic jazz playing is stellar. ---------- The Iceman

Yes, Iceman is right: Mike is one of the key early overblowers, a kind of missing link who deserves more play in the overblow story. Buy THE MOUTH THAT ROARED.
I just love his playing here. He is musical. To me, that's the highest compliment one can extend a musician. You can talk about tone, technique, energy, all day long, but in the final analysis, when somebody can just pick up an instrument and talk music through it, that's it. End of story. Comparisons, top-10 lists, etc., just don't matter. Musicality speaks for itself and can't be "answered." It just is.

Mike is an old friend of mine and these days rarely plays out with diatonics and he's one of the very best jazz harmonica players on the planet. He studied trumpet for a time at Berklee College of Music and had two different grants from the National Endowment For The Arts, one to study with the great jazz chromatic man Toots Thielemans and another to study with the late, great classical virtuoso Cham-Ber Huang. In my book, he's a true bad ass. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
