Hey, if you are in Memphis for IBC be sure to check out Bad Brad & The Fat Cats with Nic Clark on harp at Blues City Cafe at 6:45 today.

The Delta Swamp Rats with Tony Smith on harp will be at the Pig on Beale at 10:00 pm. They are the solo/duo act from the Sun Coast Blues Society in FL. They are my pick for solo/duo winners.

I don't think I'll be able to make any of the events this year, but please give them my best.

On the off chance that I am able to drive up on Saturday: is there some sort of jamming action on Saturday, early evening after the finals (which take place through the middle of the day) conclude?

Tom, then all you needed was this:

"8:30pm All-Star Jam with Dennis Jones (New Daisy Theater)
10:00pm VizzTone Blues Party On Beale All star showcase hosted by Bob Margolin featuring Candye Kane, Laura Chavez, Little G Weevil, Dennis Gruenling, Long Tall Deb & Colin John, Bob Corritore, Gina Sicilia, Gracie Curran, Tad Walters, Chuck Cotton, Richard "Rosy" Rosenblatt. (Rum Boogie Cafe) ($5)"

Adam, I've been to that Saturday night jam at Rum Boogie a couple times. Really good. Bob Margolin runs it. Do you know him?

Just in case Adam was able to attend on another day, I felt it necessary to provide him with the most pertinent, up to date information.

That Saturday showcase at The Rum Boogie is not a "jam"=you just don't sign up or walk up and play. It's put on by the Vizztone label, showcasing their talent, and the house band is one of their astists-last year it was Dave Gross and Gina Sicilia hosting.

"Event Details

We'll be tearing it up with performances by VizzTone family and friends on Friday and Saturday nights, February 1 and 2, from 10 PM until LATE! This year DAVE GROSS and GINA SICILIA will open the show and provide the house band, and guest performers are expected to include: Doug Deming and the Jewel Tones, Dennis Gruenling, Big Bill Morganfield, Greg Nagy, Scissormen, Peter Parcek, Long Tall Deb, Austin Young, Rich DelGrosso and Jonn Del Toro Richardson, Phil Pemberton and Doug Woolverton (from Roomful of Blues), T. Blade, Erin Harpe, Richard Rosenblatt, Tom Papadatos, Scot Hornick, Tony Braunagel, Michael Bram, and many more!"

This year its Bob Margolin-but there is an early jam by the Stella Vees

If you know Bob you can get on stage at the jam. He hosted a couple years ago when I was there, and it is true that any yahoo off the street can't play the jam but I bet Adam could. Al Chesis got up and so did Lil Red and Willie Panker. I don't think any of them are signed to Vizztone. That is why I asked Adam if he knows Bob Margolin.

It is the most prestigious jam on Beale during IBC and I feel sure Adam would be welcomed.

I thought the most impressive player at the jam was Tad Walters. He did it all: harp, vocals, bass, and guitar. He led the band though the coolest version of "I'm a Man" that I have ever heard this side of Muddy Waters. The place was rockin'. For me it was the best moment of that IBC.

Left to right: Willy Panker, Bob Margolin, Matt Hill, Lil Red, Al Chesis.

Their set was excellent, as you would expect.

Here is a piece of video from that jam. The ONLY place I could find to stand was a tiny area against the back wall where I was wedged between others, and I had to kind of lean around a light shade in front of me. But I wanted to capture the moment.

Rich Rosenblatt is on harp.

Rich "Rosy" Rosenblatt is president of Vizztone-all of the players on this recording were Vizztone artists at the time.

The Blues Doctors have a CD release party at Roosters in Oxford from 5:30 to 7:30 on Friday. It's unlikely that I'll be in Memphis on Saturday, but if I am, I don't think I'll be there late. It's 80 miles back to Oxford, unless I get a hotel room there, and it's probably too late for that. No worries. Have a great time, everybody. And go Nick!

I don't know Bob Margolin well, but we crossed paths once. He played before Satan & Adam in Olympic Park in Atlanta during the 1996 Olympics. We hung out backstage for a little while.
