hey guys, off topic here a bit...there was a little harp action(but not nearly as much as I would have liked).
Delbert should have played something. I hear he's a good harp player, too.
Reeeally tight backup, by the Hell Bent Band. My sis and I had great seats($50 ea). Worth the dough. We don't get many real exciting acts in Honolulu. The over head can break the profit margin down to nothing.

and this guy was great...don't remember his name...?
He played the piano, and harp, on a few, too.

and local boy and lap steele master, Greg Sardinha, got a sit in spot and wowed the crowd with Cindy Cashdollar. They were really cool together.

Me, and my sis, and a local guitar player pal, Sean Harrison enjoying the good vibes.

aloha's! fellow bluesmen...we do get an occasional shot of good blues, from the mainland. If you're ever here visiting, stop by OnStage Drinks and Grinds, and check out what me and my band are doing, too. We smoke a good blues set for the purists. Here's the latest shot of who what and where... photo BLUESINHAWAIIposterw-time_zps001db60f.jpg

This Wednesday we'll be doin an MP3 recording of us live. Should be good enough to brag about. Which is more than I could say for earlier attempts at recording. We'll see, eh?
I'll post a clip at some of the songs you can expect, if you find yourself out this way! And some other folks who sit in regularly with us, too. We got BLUES IN THE GRASS SHACK, baby!

Will be in Mid Waikiki two Wednesday's in April. Three questions for Mojokane. 1) Always starts at 7:30 and ends at 10? Asking because here the show might not even start until 10:30. 2) Are taxis readily available to get back to the beach? 3) Do you recommend Bailey's for the vintage aloha shirts?

The player whose name you could not remember is Johnny Guitar Nicholas from Texas. He grew up in CT/RI and played music w/ Big Walter, Ronnie Earl, Duke Robillard, Steve Nardlla, Sarah Brown, Johnny Shines, Asleep at the Wheel, and others. Want a cool CD? Live at The Bocce, a set w/ Bug Walter, Sugar Ray Norcia, Ronnie Earl and Johnny. Classic bootleg from the soupy capital of the universe!

Had a chance to open for Delbert Mc Clinton at the Armadillo East in Nashville in 1977. Delbert is a great singer, songwriter, harp man and very down home nice guy.

SmokeJS/ Yes we are always on time. Bring yer appetite, too.
And the taxi's are all night. No worries. Where you staying?
Bailey's is cool. My ex works there. She's an encyclopedia of trivia, and info on collectables.
They, OnStage Drinks and Grinds..rolled out a new menu.
No more Mexi.boohoo.
It's still killer stuff...this is a sample..$8

6SN7/..Ahh yes, thanks! He could have had a show of his own. It was a great night for us locals out here in the middle of nowhere!
I had a little run in with some jerk who didn't want to share my moment to grab a quick pix.
I let the first time go, but when he slapped my back again, I whipped around and told him to FUCK OFF!(while flipping him the finger so EVERYBODY COULD SEE!!!..he was pretty big, too!).
Y'know...the ole "dutch courage" always kicks in after a few gin n tonics...he shut up after that. Lucky for me.
He was doin it to others, too.
I got a pat on the back from someone after. Just sayin. But I could have gotten a better pic if it wasn't for that jerk. Ha!
I even got the nod from the promoter. Cool.
My sister nearly tore him a new asshole after the gig...his bitch didn't have a chance! It wasn't so bad...I think he understood our position when my sister told him we paid $50 bucks...TOO!
Slimharp/ I love Delberts way with the heart sick style of blues...really touches home. Thanks for your comments.
It was a great treat.

Mojokane, in Honolulu mid April staying at The Breakers on Beach Walk. Been there before. It's like stepping back into the 50's compared to all the modern highrise Waikiki hotels. Getting a bit tired but price and location are both terrific. Was in Bailey's a few years ago but had no idea what I was looking at. This time I'm not leaving without a vintage shirt!
If you hear of any other blues shows during our stay would appreciate if you could post here. Thanks!

Saw Kevin and The Flat Five Wednesday night in Honolulu. Blues is a bit hard to find on the islands so this was very welcome. Long first set of blues standards with plenty of quality harp playing. Good tone from a mic'ed 60's amp that might have come from the Silvertone famly but I didn't get too close to see. Repainted bullet mic with a volume control. Kevin's vocals are strong though perhaps deliberately muffled a bit through the PA. Particularly enjoyed the guitar work of Stan Mishina. Crowd was mostly regulars who know how to have a good time. Highly recommended.

SmokeJS - I have always loved The Breakers on The Beach Walk.
Truly, you are stepping back in the 50's.
My ex works at Baileys. btw.
I appreciate the critique. Thanks for going easy on me.
We are constantly improving. Stan is amazing..
The amp is a Silvertone Twin Twelve 1484 (2)6L6, turned into a combo pair 10X12 alnico's..
We now have West Coast Swing dancers come in every week. They drink and eat and have a great time. Puts the band in the right head space, too. Fun.
Once they realized we don't get paid, they started puttin 20's in.
So we're movin a little faster to come up with new stuff, too. Our repertoire is old....like us.
