Have a bugera v5 combo- fooled around with12 ay7-gt power tube el84 rated 8(meaning late breakup), then I gave up to the idea that a different ax7 would be my next experiment. Having been told to stay away from gain, (gain is the harmonica players enemy) I went out and bought a electro-harmonix 12ax7..boy I cannot begin to tell you the difference it made...it just sounded proffessional!! Felt like I had too much there and it was getting away from me!!! Hardly any feedback, or you could fool around with equal and eliminate it...one catch, it didn't make any change into the amp alone, a multi-effects pedal had to be used and then look out, sounded like I sent it off to get modded.. So in short, if anyone has one of these amps, give this simple tube change a try.Oh, one other thing, I changed the power tube to a groove tube el84 with a rating of 8, late breakup or distortion, and, used a shire 545 ultimate and new bullet microphones...

The bugera V5 is a very clean amp, is different that the rest of the 5w amps. The standar 5w tube amp is designed so the guitar player can play clean, blues and metal, so they have a lot of gain.

The bugera let you play clean and blues, maybe some 60s rock, but that is it, it has less gain in the circuit than the average amp, so you can use a 12ax7 for harp.

Use a Jan Phillips 5751 in that amp and you are going to know how much a good tube can improve things.

I had access to another 12ax7-general electric Nos, but, at the bugera v5owners club they don't say anything about it...so I was thinking RCA Nos(12ax7)..and maybe it could be better, (another tube)as I think I hear like a faint overdrive sound in the background when tongue blocking with the electro harmonic ax7
