Hi Guys, and happy new year to you all!

I thought I'd post up this video I made to see what you guys think. It was a bit of an experiment of mine to try to breakdown Little Walter's "My Babe" for the benefit of anyone who might want to learn how to play it. I'm one of those who hate listening to the sound of my own voice hence I don't speak in the video but I'm interested to know whether you think this kind of format is useful.

For the real Little Walter experts out there, it's quite possible, and highly likely, I've got some of the notes wrong in places or the techniques I'm using aren't exactly how Walter played it. If so I apologize but I'm just going by what my ears hear when I listen to the track.

Thanks Adam
My guitar guy and I have been working on this song. I was having a hard time decoding the solo section. I'll probably spend some time this weekend relistening to your video. I may use my HarpNinja program to catch some of the notes until I have it by ear. From there, a lot of practice.

Thanks again

Thanks BC. Glad I could be of some help. I like the HarpNinja program by the way. I'm thinking of buying it to use when I do the occasional lesson with a student. It's a great way for them to be able to visualise the notes they're playing, especially when they're learning to bend notes. Great idea!

I agree with the positive comments so far. I think you have a good teaching style. I like the way you demonstrate each technique and then break the song down into it's parts. Hopefully you'll do more like this.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the positive feedback. I was thinking of doing another Little Walter tune "Ah'w Baby" next as soon as I find the time (i.e. get a quiet moment at home on the computer without the kids running around in the background).

It's only been in the last couple of years that I've really started to appreciate how great a player Little Walter was. Some of his stuff sounds on the face of it quite simple until you try to recreate it. Then you realise the subtleties in his playing. It's great stuff!

Just went through the video again. Using a combination of my ears and the HarpNinja (and multiple stop and looping through the video) I think I was able to decode most of it. Certainly won't be able to play it at full speed yet based on my level of experience. However it gives me something to practice with and I know I'll need a lot of that to tackle this song.

Thanks yet again.

Nice teaching Adam - That solo is perfection for that particular song...

Matter of fact...There is not a solo that Walter has done that he injected into the songs he sings that can be improved upon.

The solos he plays in those songs, "My Babe", "Just Your Fool", "Blues With A Feeling", "Mean Ole World" etc, etc, the solos he improvises are Perfect in every way for each song...

Trying to make up a better a solo for any of those songs would be futile, it ain't going to happen :)
