pretty fascinating!
Although I'm not sure I fully understand about getting the emotion out of your playing. For me, I'm generally trying to get emotion _into my playing, not out. If there's emotion then I feel like I'm really getting something across and feeling it.. Maybe it's more of a "get out of your own way" kind of thing.
really cool stuff, thanks Frank

My pleasure fellers, another member turned me on to this teacher and I'm hooked...
I think your right slap about "get out of your own way" kind of thing -
in other words don't let your emotions control you, or like you said -they are bound to get in the way of what your trying to do :)

What he also seems to say is don't get caught in the 1/4 note counting which we naturally respond to, letting that dictate our phrasing and expression. A lot more is rhythmically possible, and the music can groove even harder. Very useful material. Now, I gotta go watch it a few more times till I get what he's saying...

Have had one-on-ones with Hal.
He is a "difficult" artist, as he demands perfection all around him. However, his talent and experience give him a get out of jail free card regarding his attitude.
Hal is a good teacher. ---------- The Iceman
