Sorry to burst your bubble my dear American fellow, but the internet was invented by a fellow Englishman by the name of Tim Berners-Lee.
Luckily to help you understand our French cousins there's a little thing called Google translator JJ Milteau Effects Pedals

Just look at the pretty pictures!
...But seriously, I really enjoyed reading this article because of how differently things are described in french.
Things like "potard de volume". That's a slang contraction of potentiometer and much more accurate that "volume button".
"micro de faible encombrement" (weakly cumbersome microphone) in other words Small microphone.
French gearheads have their own lingo!

Well strictly speaking yes. In reality though what the majority of people refer to as "The Internet" is really the "World Wide Web". That though is a completely different discussion which doesn't really belong on this forum.
My post though was merely intended to be a slightly sarcastic response to Ridge's whimsical comment about the French.
The important thing is that there's now a link to an English translation of the article in question, for those that wish to read it.

Not really, the WWW is just one (albiet large) facet that runs on the internet. Ask the NSA et al;-)
Thanks for the link (and trans). I've had JJ's Routes album for a long time

"French gearheads have their own lingo!"
Back in the Eighties I worked for a small computer manufacturer. The French actually had LAWS against importing new words from other languages - which of course pretty much any new word about computers was. I don't know if they still do - but it cost us a boatload to rewrite our manuals in french. Translation was not sufficient. The only one I remember was "microordinature" (not sure about the spelling) - which meant microcomputer.
So the fact that French gearheads have their own lingo might not be so much that they WANT to, but that the French are... well.... French. ---------- *************************************************** /Greg
