I recently purchased a set of Seydel Session Steels. While I can play them reasonably well as-is, the taller cover plates feel awkward as compared to the SP20s and MBs I usually play. Others have commented on this as well. I saw some coverplate suggestions in another thread. I am contemplating whether to put different coverplates on them. I wanted to bring this topic up again to solicit insight as to what other Seydel coverplates will fit on the Session Steels and will be a lower profile on par with an SP20. While I am fairly handy and could work on the harmonica, however there are no instructions on swapping coverplates. I want to make sure I don't miss something and mess up my harps.
Any shared experience to help me make a decision on whether to do this, what to swap on them, and how to do it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hey bc, take off the cover plates from one of your session steels.
Remove cover plates from a SPL20, and a M.B.
Try them on your session steel.
What do you see?

Seydel has 3 diatonic covers: The 1847 open style, The Full-length Session contoured style, and the half-flat which are used on the Solist Pro.

All 3 styles are completely interchangeable with the 2 basic diatonic frames made by Seydel.

I have photographs of each style on my web site.

Thanks guys for the feedback

Michael:
I did not want to take them apart, however I did place all of them together and looked at the differences. The SP20 and MB will certainly not fit the Session Steel since the screw hole spacing is longer on the Seydel. Also the MB has four nails/screws. The Seydel is contured at the ends where the two Hohners drop off and are flat at the ends. The height subjectively looked close, I did measure the SP20 and Session Steel at the front. The SP20 was a bit under 3/4" and the Session Steel was a bit above 3/4". I also noticed that the Session Steel cover plates were closer to the edge of the plastic body whereas the SP20 and MB had a little more of a step. Definitely different.

Greg:
I had perused your site briefly before. I'll have to check it out again to try to get ideas.

So lots to investigate. I want to make sure I take the time so I can get it right the first time in case I decide to swap them out.

Thanks
