Lyndon is British. He's from Newcastle. I've known him for a long time, he's one of the many good blues players in the Newcastle area. If you like Lyndon's playing then you should check out some of the other lesser known British harp players such as Tom Cocks, Johnny Hewitt and Brian Lynam.

Thank you Kingley,

Hewitt was familiar, but the others are new to me.

I found other stuff with Lindon A as well, and he´s quite impressive.

It´s not that I don´t like trad blues harp (would be kinda stupid hanging round here then), it´s just that sometimes (a bit too often) it´s so completely "trad", sound/riffs etc, that one wishes for an impetus of sorts that takes it into slightly less predictable territory. (Eh, not very elegant mixing of metaphors there, I admit.)

Lyndon is playing through his Bassman here. I remember him mentioning it at the time of the radio session.

Interesting. I´m generally on the short side of knowledge when it comes to amps and stuff, but I recall many people saying that the good Bassman cracked-up sound requires quite a bit of volume -- hence a room somewhat (considerably!) larger than what we have here.

But I´m probably misinformed there as well. (I´ve also been told disturbing things about Santa Claus.)

"people saying that the good Bassman cracked-up sound requires quite a bit of volume"

In the hands of a knowledgeable PLAYER - It really doesn't matter if they they play through a tin can/ glass/ toilet paper roll, or a Bassmen with the volume on (1) ...If they want [crack-up] in their sound, they are going to get it regardless of the equipment they are using or volume levels used...

Lyndon is a phenomenal musician and has total command of "Amped Harmonica" - just a pure pleasure to hear his skills in action :)

Lol! Thanks Nick, but I'm not in the same league as those other fellas. I just know a handful of licks and if I'm lucky can string 'em together on a good night.

Agreed, he is...in my book, from seeing those few vids - a unique force, with original harp / vocal and arrangment concepts equal to the late great "Bill Clarke" :)

Are you giving me that "It´s all in the player, gear doesn´t matter" crap, Frank? What you say to beginners, who think they can BUY good tone? (And he who says it is a proud owner of 259 something microphones, amps, pedals and various gadgets.)

Or are you more specific regarding the Bassman´s qualities?

My question is genuine -- but please don´t try to convince me that gear doesn´t matter: that debate should hopefully be buried somewhere.

My point is this...a player with the skills of someone like Lyndon's - is capable of getting crack-up first and foremost because of their expert technical execution.

That natural crack-up is simply enhanced by electronics or other devices the player may use.

So crack-up can be obtained acoustically or even at low volume levels...

BUT, as an amps volume is increased and/or other factors are added, pedals and such - that crack-up will be fortified with increased electrical energy thus causing the crack-up to expand or compress and morph into more then it was previously!

So the question is not whether equipment matters or not...

The question is will the equipment respond to a players technical input in a way that positively benefits the desired output of sound :)

Here is my traditional version of Easy...To watch this then Lyndon's is... to hear clearly the contrast of an Amatuer and a Professional...
