The thread, “Greatest Musical Instrument of All Time”, inspired the thought of this one. The other thread (so far) has focused on the beauty, versatility and control of the human voice. I was listening to examples from that thread and thought to myself, “What about the other side of the coin?” … The release of raw emotion; the kind that frees demons within ourselves: The hard rock SCREAM.

To some, the scream might be just a pointless, ugly bunch of noise, but to many of us, it is an art form that does the same thing that blues does: It expresses emotions within us that we really can’t. It reaches into our souls and slaps those pent up, simmering demons (Anger, Sorrow, Jealousy, Contempt, Bitterness, Frustration, etc) and tells them, “LET IT OUT!!” And then you feel better. It’s therapeutic

It‘s the scream, I guess, that taught me (at the age of 13) to actually FEEL music at a really deep level. (Isn’t that what blues is about?) For an example, I went to You Tube hoping to find a collage of screams from my first and personal favorite screamer, Jim Morrison (Of course there are other good screamers (Robert Plant, Edgar Winter, etc, etc, etc.), but all I could find quickly is this one.

(Yes, I know that this is a Willie Dixon blues song, but like a lot of other blues songs performed by rock artists, the way it's performed is rock; not blues, imo.)

How about Deep Purple and the awesome Ian Gillan.
