Saw him in Nov of '74 at the Michigan Palace in Detroit. No non-sense hard hitting blues /rock ! I've been a fan ever since. Thanks for the link.

Great story. Sad. These artist types, they sure can get serious about things. Maybe if he lightened up a little and wrote that top 40 hit, that he knew he could, things would have gone better for him. It's almost like, in fighting so hard to protect his artistic integrity, he eventually got bogged down by the weight of it just the same. If you hold something so high, eventually it crushes you. Crazy head games it must be.

Rory just wanted to play music and have fun on his own terms.

You can easily see it in his face on any video.

I understand he was one of the first guitarists to combine rhythm guitar with lead guitar, opening the door for so many others.

The only sad thing was his health problems at the end of his life.

Everyone loved him and he was truly a stand up guy...no womanizing, public drug issues, political stances, etc.

Only problem he had was when managers tried to tell him what to do.

@Jinx Yeah, if only had written that Top 40 hit he could have been a star!

YouTube cancels billions of music industry video views after finding they were fake or 'dead'

Well groyster as much as I love that "quote" it seems to be an internet myth. I just watched a couple of the Dick Cavett interviews and in one case where Dick says something about being the greatest guitar player in the world, Jimi shyly hangs his head and mumbles, to which Dick jokingly replies "well at least the best guitarist in this studio" then Jimi says "at least the best guitarist in this chair".
According to Snopes there is no confirmed source for the supposed quote about Rory Gallagher. Too bad I always liked that one.
