Hi,
Readig about the difference between blackface and silverface amps, I found this mod by Gerald Weber: http://www.webphix.com/schematic%20heaven/www.schematicheaven.com/mods/champ_tweedifying_mod.pdf
If I get it right, whit these mods you can turn your Silverface champ into a original tweed circuit.
In some guitar forums some people say that the cheapest way to get a tweed champ s to buy a SF and to mod it back to tweed specs.
Any of you has done something similar? what is the upside and the downside of this mods?
I have a SF so I wan to know if this mod is for the best or not.
thxs!!

I have built a 5C1 Champ. The 6SJ7 input had a nice phat gritty tone. I also have a SF Champ lock stock. I like the 5C1 better. There are several tweed circuits. Up side, you may have something that you like better tone wise. Down side, you screwed up a good Fender amp...You may or may not like what you end up with. I would suggest that you get a kit and build a Tweed from scratch...BN

I have done exactly what your talking about. It will make it a better harp amp. It will not sound exactly like a tweed champ. Is that good or bad? Dunno! Remove the preamp bypass caps. Remove the negative feed back loop(one resister and a wire) Bypass the whole tone circuit. Change the power resister values from 1k and 10k and 10k and 22k. Only use NOS RCA 6v6's from 50's-60's. walla harp amp. I would put a 10 inch speaker in it also. You could Email me or Rick Davis. I know Rick is very familiar with this and has blog about it. Single ended harp amps is one of my passions
Edit: To answer your question NO! You can not make a silverface champ sound like a Tweed champ! If you do all the stuff I said it will be a great harp amp and who cares if sounds like a tweed champ? I think tweed champs sound boxy and small!
