The recent shows I saw more than prove Kim Wilson's professionalism and his dedication to giving his best to the audience no matter who he's playing with or how big the audience is.

Having had personal experience w/Kim (hanging out, booking him for gigs, etc), I can testify to his professionalism and willingness to make every performance count...even when he personally did not like the venue or situation.
Have heard him vent about the situation, but when he hit the stage, all of his griping disappeared and he put on a stellar show.
Found that if you treat him right and fairly, he is like a committed blue collar worker willing to do the job 100% and if he likes the situation, he gives 150%.
If you treat him wrong or unfairly, he can be quite a handful. ---------- The Iceman

Kim is my favorite blues player. I've watched the entirety of this interview several times...it all speaks to me EXCEPT the very end.
Kim and David comment on blues stylings, namely post war blues vs trying to add a contemporary styling today. As much as I love these two men for their insight and playing, I find it hypocritical to take that stance regarding harmonica. If only because there was a lot of blues harmonica played BEFORE that era, and the blues harmonica of the 50's was totally modern/contemporary when conceived.
The music play only exists because of what came before it, and their heroes played a very different role than that of historian. In addition, the stuff that Kim and David play is current and relevant to today. The shouldn't discredit themselves as not pushing blues harmonica forward.

I haven't watch the whole interview yet, but from that way you describe it I think Dave and Kim are talking about not pushing Blues harp forward but turning it into something else, and still calling it Blues.

hmm .. on 'Delivery of our own voice' @ 7:30 ... Kim said he just recently 'Got It' at 62 years of age ....
I thought he 'Had It' when I watched him back in the 70's .. aka Goleta Slim ... busking on the streets of So. Ca ...
C#%P ... may as well just give it up ... naw .. however .. certainly adds another dimension to the challenge of 'finding' our own voice' ...
