Best ever at making a chromatic sound diatonic. I bet he pulled it out for kix when he found out he was going Milli Vanilli.

Amazing sound, not having a mic and all. Are those press on fingernail extensions? Or does he always keep them that long?

There are some great vids around of people messing with the miming situation. I remember a Canadian program with a guy by the name of Jack Green. He's miming away like a goodun when a gaggle of teenage girls gang tackle him. He's lying flat on his pack trying to get out from under the pile of wet knickers with the vocal and the band still merrily playing away.

The best one though I only heard about - from a very reliable source - but did not witness myself. Dave Edmunds is playing a festival in Poland, I think it was. For some daft reason having to do with avoiding the festival going overtime and being shut down by authorities, the Edmunds band was told they could only do the single and that had to be mimed. So being the courageous Welsh troopers they were the guys give it a go, not to mention Edmunds wanted to get paid.

So it comes time for the guitar solo which Edmunds is miming but behind him keyboard wizard Geraint Watkins starts pushing a B3 across the stage while laughing his ass off. The crowd immediately rumbles they've been had and a riot ensues. Edmunds and the rest, with the exception of Watkins, exits one side of the stage and manages to get into the van and escape. Watkins ended up on the other side and didn't make it to the van. The rest of the band just kept on going back to blighty leaving Watkins to find his own way!

The turban ,the hairy chest exposure ye gods, what was he thinking about.Ah it was the 70s'.

One thing with this miming,i can see it is relatively easy for guitarists, singers etc to do it but how does the drummer get away with it?
Must be pretty obvious if he is not actually kicking or hitting anything surely?

Good showmanship, and that's an important ingredient. Or, so I've read. Convincing audience too.

Often, the band will be asked to perform in the studio, but they will be told to play the ARRANGEMENT the way it is on the record, so that vocals can be synced to the singer's mouth on video.

Most of the rest of the time, there's no effort made to sync any of the band with the sound you hear. The video is there for the shots of the band, not for accuracy.

The only "oopsie" is that Kim or someone forgot those couple of harp fills during the verses. That's when you heard harp but saw no such thing.

It's nearly impossible to mime drums. Again, the band was likely playing the song, at least loosely, so they could be recorded.

There have been plenty of times when home videos (remember those?) of "live" concerts have been issued and the footage is from one night of a tour while the audio is from another night.

It's only in this modern, YouTube, replay-at-will society that people even notice the gaffes like Kim "playing" without playing.

That turban, though... wha-tha-HAIL izzat?

Most of the rest of them have enough grease in their hair to make Sha Na Na jealous ;-)

I seem to remember an early Thunderbirds Album cover that had Kim wearing a Turban...was it "girls go wild" or somesuch?
He obviously didn't like losing his hair ..maybe a comb up from his chest would've done the job..^
His 'new' look suits him though i reckon, certainly looks fit and healthy .
