A new HG50 sells for $1600.00. This amp is marketed as harp-ready with no need for mod's. How do the HG's compare to Mission or modded bassman amps of the same wattage?

I had a HG50 1210 that had previously been demoed with Jason Ricci. I sold it for $900ish. They guy who bought it ended up modding the circuit for a couple hundred bucks...$2,200 seems ridiculous. He's trying to make a profit from his tinkering.
The HG50 is going to be fairly clean compared to a lot of other harp amps. ---------- Mantra Customized Harmonicas My Website

The Harpgear HG50 is a very fine amp at $1600, new from the maker Brian Purdy. $2200 for this used amp seems, um, ridiculous. (LINK)
How does it compare to Mission amps or the Bassman RI? There are some Mission 50-watt amp owners on this forum who may see this and chime in. The Harpgear is known for a cleaner singing tone. Think of Jason Ricci. The Mission amps are known for a warmer textured tone. Think of Nic Clark. Both amps and players sound great.
A modded Bassman can have a wide range of sonic characters, depending on how you modify it. Same with this hacked Harpgear amp. But I doubt any mods could make me shell out $2200 for a used Harpgear 410. The amp is worth about $1000, tops.

I suspect the $2,200 price tag is what the amp cost him originally plus the cost of the mods he's had done by the amp tech. Plus of course the speakers he's swapped and maybe a bit of profit on top. Either way it's not worth that money. I agree with Rick that $1000 is a much more realistic price for it. Personally though I'd rather buy a new HG50 rather than a used one that's been tinkered with. If it were in stock form and priced at $1000 then I'd say it was worth looking at.

I would opt for the Mission Amps. 50 watt option if you think you need it. I briefly had a HG50 12x10. I'm happier with the Mission Amps. I think sound quality and quality of construction on the Mission Amps is a little better. They will probably be a little cheaper too.
