Hi guys! I've being searching for weeks the origin of a lick I've heard on several blues harmonica songs. Charlie Musselwhite plays it on second 00:45 of this video:
I've also heard it from Mark Hummel and Gonzalo Araya, and I think I once heard it on a saxophone recording, may be from Eddie Vinson or Louis Jordan. But I just can't find THE original song. Anybody knows who was the first to ever play it? Thanks so much in advanced!

Hi, Martic-- This riff comes from Count Basie's "One O'clock Jump, recorded in 1937.
Here is that 1937 song, where the riff was originally heard, in recordings at least:
The riff shows up at the 2:27 mark.
You can read about the song in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_O'Clock_Jump

"What a ball, the jumpin' started Shortly after one o'clock"
This seems to be the 1937 recording referenced in the Wiki article. I am familiar with it through the Lambert, Hendricks and Ross recording. It's not on YouTube, but there is this:
Sidenote: Yolande Bavan was in a group with harmonica player and TV host Peter Ivers--here is a sample of that band.
