Hi guys, My name is Ugly Bones and I like playing blues harmonica but sometimes jazz, reggae, and rock. I'm a Hohner Crossover player but was looking at some reviews for Spiers Custom harmonicas and they look excellent. I enjoy overblows especially when soloing. Does anyone here own a Spiers harp? Do you like it? Feedback?

I have about 6 of his harps so far and one frankenstein harp that he tweaked for me a couple of years ago. Like most if not all customizers he will ask you what you need regarding your style and then build it accordingly. If anything is not to your subjective specs once received he will take it back immediately and alter it accordingly. He builds Golden Melodys for me. That are not magic - they're just great - and dependably tuned and responsive (with nice combs). Here's what I think as an oversimplifying non-technical blower who gets paid to play: They work like harps should work out of the box: perfectly! ---------- Facebook

I have one of Joe's Sp. 20 full ob/od customs, so I could practice my technique on a dependable harp. It's easily the most all purpose, reliable, responsive harp I have. If I had the budget, I'd get more.

Joe Spiers is considered one of the best customizers on the planet. I own 5 or 6 Sp 20 stage 1 and two MB stage II that are over two years old. Never had an issue with any of them. They are all still in tune and play like new and they have been played alot. Everything about them is top knotch. There super responsive, loud and every note and bent note takes a lot less effort to play compared to a good OOTB harp. I can't imagine a harp playing any better than a Spiers stage II custom unless its a stage III

I have 5 of Joe's harps. SP 20's stage 1, A, Bb, C, D, G. They are a dream to play, very responsive, 3 step bends, play evenly on all notes. Ive had mine for two years ( except the Bb )with no problems. I do not practice with them, use them only on stage. I recently got the Bb. I have had problems in the past with OOTB Bb 3 draw bend/vibrato. They seem to stall out on me or go mushy. With Joe's Bb 3 draw is quick to respond, loud, and takes much less effort to get a strong vibrato. You might be amazed at what a GOOD harp plays like. Well worth the money and the wait.

He's the best hands down. Most natural sounding customs all the volume, flexibility etc. with out the overly bright treble factor. Joe Rules.

I've actually tried out a friend of mine's set he got from Joe and no question in my mind, he's clearly one one of the finest diatonic harp customizers on the planet and they're worth both the price and the wait. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

You will never go wrong with a Spiers harp. His work was even inspected by and earned the respect and approval of Filisko. Greatest thing I ever did for my harp playing was to start using Joe's harps.

I am the happy owner of a Joe Spiers Stage 1 Special 20 harmonica in the key of C. It plays beautifully. Great tone, with a very nice evenness from one hole to the next. It's my best harp, clearly superior to the Xovers and MBDs, which themselves are clearly superior to other OOTB harps.

Yeah @Todd Parrott I saw your video. That's how I got to his website. I know you know your stuff (seeing as it is I'm a fan of your videos) but I just needed a second opinion. Apparently I got 10 more, plus Joe Filisko's, and yours again so the answer is obvious. Thank you guys for the advice.

The good news is, Joe's work is getting even better! How do I know? He told me so!

I have nothing but respect for Choppa Joe. I am getting better too--but he may well be "the winner and champion". Jason just said so too--he knows his way around a harp! I can personally vouch for the quality of his mods, I snagged a Stage One in G and it is the best diatonic I own. They aren't free, but they are worth the money!
