How are the stock MBD sealed combs with the extra coating holding up out there? I'm interested in hearing from those who have really worked them as in gigging and extended practice. How durable the clearcoat is, and if swelling has been any issue.

Mine aren't worked super heavy Joe. They do get daily use for practice of at least an hour or two and gigged at least once a week. So far though the sealed combs are holding up very well and I haven't experienced any swelling issues. Some of them are over twelve months old or so now I guess. I play everything tongue blocked except the blow bends if that helps at all.

Same here Joe. The few I have that are fully sealed have held up well with no swelling. I'd say I play 75-25 lip purse to TB. This is with practicing and some gigs over the past 6 months or so.

No swelling at all .what's the difference between mb 1896 Combs and the deluxe Combs? I thought the new 1896s were supposed to be sealed. But they do seem to swell a bit on me.No problem with deluxe tho.

I have one that's 7 years old I think. The coating has worn and I have got a bit of swelling along the comb now. For the last 18 months this harp has been getting a lot of use, my daily harp. I don't gig with it but I practice with it 90%. I tongue block everything now, this was the harp I did all the work on tongue block blow bends, which was fairly wet for a while.
The comb has grown just a little, but evenly.
