Todd Park Mohr of Big Head Todd and The Monsters is the newest member of the Mile High Blues Society. He sat in with Bad Brad & The Fat Cats at the MHBS Halloween Bash at Ziggies in Denver last night. Nice!

Check out Bad Brad's Halloween costume. He dressed as Rick Davis! Nailed it, from the baseball cap and glasses to the black t-shirt, jeans, and white basketball shoes. He had a goatee glued to his face that really topped it all off but it would not stick. The whole thing cracked me up all night every time I looked at him.

Funny part is, I went to the party dressed as Al Chesis... a much bigger Al Chesis. Nic Clark dressed as Paul Oscher, but his bushy beard got in the way of his playing so he took it off.

It was a hell of a party, the place was packed and rockin'!

More Big Head Todd. I took this with my phone instead of the Zoom, so the audio is not quite as good.

Love it!

Big Head Todd is one of my favorite bands...might have to watch the concert DVD tonight now. Todd's personal YT page has some great blues guitar.

When I was in high school their album, Beautiful World came out. I was at the record shop trying to find some new music and their cover of Boom Boom came on over the speakers. I immediately went to the front and bought it.

I about wore that CD out that summer driving back and forth from ND to SD to visit my girlfriend.

Todd Park Mohr is a very cool guy. His amp was a 17-watt boutique thing I didn't recognize. He had great tone.

Here is Nic playing his Mission 3x10 amp that he will take to the IBC in Memphis.

I think this shows the classic Mission Amps harp tone. It has that mild crunch and a bit of tearing on the attack of the notes. This amp is 44 watts and has the same paraphase inverter that is in the 32-20 line. That gives it the big warm sound.

Of course, the player's got to tease the tone out of the amp. Nic is a hell of a player and he shows off the amp very well.

In the context of the OP, it means someone came in and tried to play blues with a blues band.

Any other opinions I have on the matter will probably be sarcastic, so I'll just obstain from further commentary.

From Wikipedia:

"Big Head Todd and the Monsters returned to the studio again in 2011 to record an all new project under the name Big Head Blues Club. The album "100 Years of Robert Johnson" celebrates the songs of the late blues singer and musician Robert Johnson. The members of Big Head Todd and the Monsters were accompanied by B. B. King, Charlie Musselwhite, Cedric Burnside, David "Honeyboy" Edwards, Hubert Sumlin, Ruthie Foster, and Lightnin' Malcolm. Big Head Todd and the Monsters have also played shows under the name Big Head Blues Club, and have invited some of the legends featured on the album to perform with them."

For the record, I've got nothing against Big Head Todd.

I really have nothing against Big Head either, but is he worthy of the title "Bluesman" ? I guess opinions vary on that. Yes, his cover of "Boom Boom" is probably almost as recognizable as the JLH version because it’s been used in movie soundtracks, commercials, etc. Personally, when I think BHT, I think of something like “Bittersweet”. I guess BHT is probably as valid as Cyndi Lauper, Pat Travers, or any number of others who have done blues.
