I have a 95 Blues Deville with 2 Eminence Lil Buddies and 2 original Special Design by Eminence. I have a few Blue Frame Alnico speakers from that same era. The sound I have now is very good, but just a touch dark or muddy, but good. I was wondering if one or two of the Blue Frames would improve the sound in place of the Special Designs ? Anybody out there have experience with this. I also found something interesting after printing out the original owners manual on the Deville. The normal channel is the same as the Bassman Re-issue.

The Blue Eminence 102s will have a bit more rasp than the ceramic 10"s that came in the De Ville.
The De Ville isn't quite the same as the Bassman (marketing spaff from Fender I'm afraid), especially in the respect that each preamp tube represents a stage in the circuit with the bassman, but not quite so in the De Ville. The Deville has more gain. That said, there's nothing wrong with the De Ville stack, I like it, you can sub tubes in V1 & V2, like a bassman, but it won't have exactly the same effect.
FWIW I prefer 12AX7 in V1 & V2 & just change V3 to 5751 (I don't recommend very low mu tubes in V3 of a Deville without some component changes). Others have their own preferences. ---------- www.myspace.com/markburness

I had two blue alnico speakers with two Lil Buddies in my Bassman and I liked the tone very much. But that is all so subjective...

Thanks Mark. I am also running a Kinder AFB ( almost impossible without it ) which adds a nice touch of crunch. I have had the tone stacks changed and some type of bridging of the circuit which allows one of the tubes to operate at full power ( Id have to ask my amp tech what he did ) I have just noticed the Blue Alnicos have been re-coned ( crap ) by Orange County Speaker, a very reputable shop here in So. Cal. I wonder if that will change the tone of the speaker ( if it is broken in ) ? I will play with the tube config in the next week or so. Will see what the speaker change will bring.

Rick, I took your advice on the Lil Buddies and glad I did. They add a mellower crunch punch. I took me 4 months to get them. I guess Eminence is making them in batches based on demand. Only drawback is the are very heavy. Added about 10 lbs to the Deville, but worth it. Thanks man.
