Hey all. Headed off to a conference at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, OH tomorrow. Be there all week. I just found out that they're having an open jam Hootenany on Wed. night. The two guys running it are Andrew Mangels & Karl Colon. Sounds like a country/blue grass type of deal. Which is fine by me since that's part of what I do on occassion. Question is, Anyone from the Sandusky area ever heard of them? Sounds like it should be a good time. ---------- You Tube = goshinjk

Hey Chops, I haven't heard the duo that you mentioned. My wife and I kept our sail boat in Sandusky for quite a few years so I know a bit about the area.
ICE CREAM - if you like ice cream, find the Tofts ice cream plant/store on the west side of Sandusky. They have the best ice cream I've ever tasted. Order a small, it will be all you can eat.
In the same vicinity as Tofts is a bar called "Margaritaville". It's pretty popular and has decent food.
On route 250, close to the resort you're staying in, is a place called "Diana's Deli". It's a mom/pop kind of place with decent food at reasonable prices.
Of course, your trip will probably include a trip to Cedar Point. The coasters there will knock your socks off, especially Top Thrill Dragster. This time of year they have Halloween specials with only the main coasters running and haunted house kind of things.
If you have time, you might want to see if things are still open on Put-In-Bay. This is THE party spot for that area of the great lakes. I don't know if a lot will be open so check before you go. You have to take a ferry across. The Jet Express out of Port Clinton takes your right to the party. Update, I just checked the Round House Bar schedule and they still have music on the weekends so I'm guessing the bars, at least, will be open. As I said, check before you go.
Unfortunately for you, after Labour Day, things start shutting down because the main industry is Tourism and boating.

As it turned out, the hootenanny jam was interesting. Karl is actually a local pro and plays in a band or two. Andrew is one of his long time students that basically plays for fun. Music was a broad mix of blues, folk, oldies rock and a couple of Irish tunes. Lots of fun. They told me to bring my harps next year if I come to the 2014 convention. Had to sit out on a few numbers as I had not much to contribute beyond distractive noise on those ones. "When in doubt, lay out.". Headed to down town Sandusky now to see what's happening there. ---------- You Tube = goshinjk
