Here's a video from the show at Little Lou's BBQ in Campbell, Calif. on September 7, 2013. If memory serves--and I haven't checked the keys--Ronnie's on a low F, David and Aki are playing third position on a Bb, with me on a regular (high) F.

Four experienced harmonica players, each comfortable in their own skin, having fun playing in front of one of the best blues jam bands.

Oooh that was Superb!, but how disheartening to have 4 of the top Harp guys around playing in a room where the management don't have the sense to turn off the massive TV when the band gets on stage, what's that all about?!

Don;t you just love getting the call for a high F in second position? Adam just runs away with it, you can't catch him!

I was there that night, and I can tell you each player was great individually, and terrific when they all played together. The locals got a superb show for no cover.

Gottsta give that one to Adam...he pushed and pulled that groove inside and out, slap shined it, wrung it out like a beer soaked bar rag and splattered it with mustard and relish - awesome harp playin by the leader of the pack :)

Frank, you may be sure that I was working hard to shine, but when I listen critically, I hear the thinness of my little Kay amp--not bad, but just what it is in that context--and, more importantly, I hear me playing in default (easier) cross harp and everybody else taking a harder road: Ronnie with the low F (on a mic/amp setup that didn't let him cut) and the other two in third position. I also hear that David, with far more experience than I in band contexts, is letting his big octaves surge over the top of the band, while I forget to do that, preferring to drive things by playing more notes in a shorter period of time. It's a small point, but it's a mental note that I've now taken. Also, I really like what Aki does in third position, unmiked, when he finallly gets his solo. He has a whole series of licks that I just don't know--and I need to start learning them.
I have no doubt that if the four of us were all in the same town, we'd be pushing each other pretty hard and everybody would benefit.

I 10/4 that Adam...with a few thoughts added - For those guys, 3rd pos is a piece of cake and far from a harder road, especially on that jump/swing groove...
Agreed if Ronnie could of CUT a lot more -that solo would of hurt so good...
Dave had his chance to shine - but came out of the shoots stiff... finally loosing up at the last 12...
Aki did put the icing on the cake with his excellent acoustic phrasing...
Again - with your solo's, regardless of what harp or position or amp, you put the J...in...ump and the S...in...wing,
And being a live setting and no one playing the same key and amp set-up, it's like you said - it is what it is :)
Thanks for sharing the vid!

Myself, I find the old format of passing solos around a swing blues just so worn out and tired. One guy working himself into a manic frenzy is just like the last.. Boring. ---------- Sun, sun, sun Burn, burn, burn Soon, soon, soon Moon, moon, moon

Having multiple players is a small part of the show, and a cool way to end that sort of harp extravaganza format...I find it interesting, observing and hearing how each player is going to use that brief spur of the moment to express themselves in a way that some how can separate them from the other musical personalities...
