I'm going to be gifting a modified Special 20 to a blind blues guitar playing friend of mine, but I can't find any instructional tools for blind harp players. I was wondering, do any of you guys know any basic harmonica instruction videos that would be easily understandable by only listening to the audio?
Thanks, Boots

Not a video, but Jerry Portnoy's Masterclass CD box set. Very well explained on the CD's. No tunes really, he teaches techniques and leaves it for the listener to apply the techniques to songs. Jerry uses a hybrid of lip purse and tongue block methods in his teaching style, which I like.
I haven't listened to them in awhile so I'm not sure if it's suitable for an absolute beginner or not. I did begin with Jon Gindicks "Rock and Blues Harmonica" book/ CD set which I recall learning lots of basics from listening to the CD, like how I first learned to bend, so that's another good one to look at.

I agree wtih Harpaholic, Jon Gindick! Audio book - Country and Blues Harmonica for the Musically Hopeless! Great book for start... others book/CD's : Jerry Portnoy's Masterclass CD (I agree with Scoltx, very good book for basics), "The Harmonica According to Charlie Musselwhite", "Paul Butterfield - Blues Harmonica Master Class", David Barret books (he has a lot great book/cd's!)...

Portnoy's Masterclass is excellent.
Just be sure not to proceed to the next lesson until you have the current one mastered. ---------- The Iceman

+1 for Jerry Portnoy's CD set.
I tried everything from the Tony Glover and Charlie Musslewhite books through the Gindick and Barrett book/CD sets. Kept hitting a brick wall every time, each for different reasons. One was too "cutesy," another to "techy" and so on. Then I found Jerry's CD's. (The set includes a little book but it is unnecessary.)
Jerry spoke to me and he still does. His CD's opened the door to the wonderful world of harmonicas for me like no one else could. I still get excited thinking about it. A decade later I still review my set from time to time just to keep myself honest. I wrote the first Amazon review for the Portnoy CD set (I'm "silverwingit" therein). Read my Amazon Portnoy CD set review (scroll down to the reviews.) I'd rate it 5 stars again today. In fact, I use it for my own blues harp students.
I might also mention that the same material can be found on Youtube and Jerry also teaches online via Sonic Junction, though I have no experience with that venue.

It might also interest your student to know that there is a blind blues harper who is active on other forums (can't find him here). Mike "Bullfrog" Rogers and his wife have a harmonica instructional web site.

In any event do let us know what you decide on and how your student progresses.
