Keys?
So often in the real world most of us have to play in, everything on the stage even at the best of times is either too loud or verging on it.
So often especially at a Jam, i find a tune is (say) called in A or G and my Harp cuts through ,then whammo the next one is in E (or F)
Can't hear a thing
Now people in the audience say it doesn't sound any quieter out front but it is to me.
So if i turn up my (miked) amp so i can hear myself on stage it's going to blast out FOH.
What do you do in this situation?
Or maybe this is a non issue for you?

I often tweak the tone a little if changing from say a G harp to a higher Eb or F harp, as those higher keys can sound a little strident.

Sometimes it depends on the song, the role of the harp in the song, and how I hear the harp placed in the mix - especially if you have keys as well as bass.

But like you, I suspect I'm over-conscious to this sort of thing..

A volume control at your mic and a little headroom when you set up should be all you need to compensate for different harps.....

Depending on all the above, an the amp inuse, I do use the the "Bright Sw" on lower key harps. Also a NFB control pot/sw or Presence, will give you more cut. And the tone stack ofcorse. Yes, I do tweek the gear, mid proformance. Never really gave it much thought, just seems natural to adjust to the song and/or key. I do this w/ my delay pedal also. Usually only need small tweeks...BN

I'll tweak the amp sometimes. Back when I used a more elaborate pedal board I was fiddling with stuff a lot more during a gig. Now it is just amp and analog delay. I never really think about adjusting the amp to accommodate the harp I plan to use in the next song, but if I notice I need more cut or push I'll make a small tweak.

But... Few things are more distracting during a song than players who spend a lot of time with their back to the audience while twisting knobs. I try to do it between songs.

Well at least i know now that it's not just me..
I have one of Gregs in line v/cs so that method could work for me,I'll give it a try.
I am miking up a 5 watter which is then my monitor.
I think maybe i need to go to a 15-30 for more stage volume in my ear.
As as often has been said, that 5W which is very loud at home can just disappear on a stage.
Shoulda bought a big one to start with ;

Jehoshaphat, do you still have that Deville? Doesn't take too much to turn it into a good harp amp...4 resistors and a couple of tubes iirc

@bee
No it ended up clapping out on me.The Tech said he thought it had been dropped at some stage(or off one ;)
I was never happy with the sound anyway(without mods)so i let it go cheap in 'as is' condition
I did learn that i don't like lugging around a 410 amp
though.
Kim W obviouly has roadies ,but he sure can make those two devilles sound good
