I have a couple of older "Hering Blues" harps. These have chrome covers w/plastic comb. I bought them from FR Farrell so that tells you how old they are. They still play well and I like them. I see now they sell a "Black Blues". Is this the same harp w/ different covers? Are the reed plates the same as the ones I have? Thanks...BN

They were around at the same time as the Hering Blues and the main differences when they first came out were that the cover plates had a black coating to darken the tone a bit and they were tuned ET. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

OK, answer me this. Is there any Non-Hering reed plates that will fit the older Hering Blues comb and cover, with a little alteration? Thanks

Still looking for reed plates that can be made to work in the Hering Blues harmonica. Come on guys, I'm fairly handy. Would love to get something going here...BN

OK, I pulled out the used reedplate box and I think that the Hohner MS plates will work. The Hering covers do not set in the grove that is in the Hohner plate but I don't think that is a problem. Looks like all that needs to be done is drill the Hering hole pattern into the Hohner plate. The center hole may need relocated but I won't know till I try it. I need to get the correct drill bits at the tool store. NOT LOWES...BN

Wouldn't it be easier to just fit Hering cover plates on a Hohner or something else? Unless there's just something special about the Hering comb that you like....

Yes Todd, that would be easier. I do like the Herings feel and weight. The comb is thicker and the cover is heavier steel w/ better chrome. I have enough of these to make a compleate set if I can get some plates to work. I have a two drill presses and all kinds of tools. Yep, I'm weird and hard headed...LOL

I played a Frankenharp a hobby customizer friend of mine made. It had a hetrick bamboo comb, SP20 ms plates and reeds and Heringe vintage harp cover plates. Very sweet pice of work. Love those brassy vintage harpcover plates.
