This seems to be the full documentary posted on You Tube

[edited by Adam: unless I hear otherwise from Todd Slobin and Mark Lempert--and I have just emailed them--I will assume that they object to Nastolddog's posting of their full video on YouTube as a violation of their copyright. I don't want Modernbluesharmonica to be a party in that violation. If forum members want to search YouTube for the video, they are free do do that. No demerit against you, geordiebluesman, but I hope you understand why I've removed the video that you posted here.]

Pirating this film is a slap in the face to Marc Lempert and and Todd Slobin, who have sunk tons of money and hard work into bringing this work to the public and into something that will allow them to recoup their costs.

Man, that's an insult. I hope they know this has been posted so they can flag it for rights violation. I tried to do it myself, but the only option is "infringes my rights".

The YouTube account that posted it is "nastyolddog", which seems to be the same individual who used to use that name on this forum.

I notified Todd Slobin of the YouTube posting. It's possible that he's aware and approves, but I'd rather be sure that he knows so that he can take appropriate action. Thanks to all here for understanding.

I'm not clear on this - is this actual PFOS movie or derivative from "the cutting room floor" called "In The Reeds" ?

Here's what nasty old dog says in his description on youtube:

Pocket Full of Soul the Harmonica Documentary has come & Gone it was only available to USA Public for Viewing at a select number of Theatre's.
Countless requests from other Nations to there Facebook page & Harmonica Forums it was Promoted on, For the Movie to be Put on DVD for sale has Fallen on deaf ears Who ever Promoted it or Produced it will not Answer these Request to Produce a DVD For us to buy.

But They have Produced this DVD ( IN THE REEDS ) as they say from the Cutting Room Floor Clips that didn't make the final Documentary It's available to Buy From there Web Page but no POCKET FULL OF SOUL DVD For sale ??????

This is my Personal Protest by posting this DVD in full Length for not allowing other Nations there right to watch PFOS Denying us a true connection with the Artists,,, only the very Few that got to watch it in some Brocken down local theatres

Nope it's not PFOS. Think about it. how would he have managed to obtain a pirate copy?
I have no idea about the legality of it. The Dog reckons he hasn't violated anyone's rights. Anyway, you know, as ye sow etc

The filmmakers have just replied to my query. They were shocked--of COURSE this was done against their wishes--and are taking action with YouTube.

About Nasty Old Dog: his self-chosen name says it all.

"In The Reeds" is being sold on DVD on the PFOS web site. I suppose he thinks the price for one copy included the right to release it free to the world.

I get a kick out of somebody claiming the "right" to watch a privately produced movie. Reminds me of people stealing music because they don't like the recording industry. I want my MTV and I want it FREE.

By the way, Old Dog is wrong about the PFOS movie not being released on DVD.

If he'd bothered to ask the producers, he would have learned that they've been working on bringing out a DVD version. They had hoped to have it ready for the PFOS showing at the 2013 SPAH convention. I gather that they're still working on it.

Firstly, lets all take our loyal fellow harmonica player hats off and see it for what it is.

PFOS is a labour of love movie which is even at the time of its inception would have been very apparent that it isn't going to make a huge amount of money, if at all. The makers pressed ahead with what most agree is a fine documentary on the harmonica.

Commercially, it's like this. Most people have no loyalty to the movie industry and will download or stream the latest blockbuster without any guilt. This is due to "big movie" choking back availability and charging big bucks in cinemas, not only for seats, but also soda, popcorn etc, so its a hard market to win any sympathy, even if you're a small company making a great niché movie for love. This is why 3D is back in a big way. Cinemas are trying to offer people something they can't get watching in their own homes so they can keep charging. Unbelievably and despite all this, Big Movie is making more money that ever before as they've opted to ensure that whilst downloads are a hole in their metaphorical bucket, if they can pour more in than the hole lets out, they're all good. PFOS' makers don't have this luxury, but sadly have to accept that they're going to be victim to the mindset of many people.

PFOS is four years old. Understandably, its producers want to make money, but given the time they've taken getting this product to market, their opportunity for that will get smaller and smaller precisely because of consumer patience.

I said DVD would be the answer for them two years ago. Now I think they'd be better off offering it on download or streaming for a fee. People who want to see it have waited too long and patience is wearing thin. There's going to be more Nasty Old Dogs out there and when the movie appears, it'll be straight up on a torrent site.

Putting my hamonica hat back on, I think its a disgrace that fellow harp players are taking money out of the hands of the wonderful people who made this movie, but if it wasn't for the fact that that I'm a harp player, I probably wouldn't care enough for it to prick my conscience too much.

Incidentally, it looks like its up as a torrent.

Personally, I really really want to see this movie and can't as I'm in the UK, so DVD / streaming / download are the only options. I'm more than happy to pay.

The PFOS folks have just engaged in a highly public Kickstarter campaign. They've explained to all who would listen that they were doing this to facilitate wide DVD release for their film. They have a huge investment of time and significant investment of money; they're simply trying to finish the thing off and make a little money back. Over the past year they also made a point of spending a lot of time and sweat trying to create a series of showings in local venues.

Somebody who posts their entire film, or any portion of their raw footage or outtakes, online so that all can watch it for free--as NOD has done--is slapping them and their dreams in the face.

I'm sure that NOD would have us believe that he is Julian Assange. Hah! He's taking food out of the mouths of a couple of insanely hardworking harmonica junkies who have been trying, against all odds, to create a testament of lasting value for our community.

It's not a perfect documentary, just a very good one. It deserves our forbearance, not our excuses for why we've somehow been betrayed by it and deserve to act against the declared wishes of its makers. NOD and anybody who even flirts with defending him have, IMHOP, lost all sense of proportion.

Today's cyber world makes it too easy for someone with a complaint (even if it is valid) to go ahead and publicly make available too much proprietary work in order to make their point.

Hate you could not delete the whole thread. I'm sure many here searched anyway, already viewed it, and may not purchase now.
Unless it is a Hollywood studio that pays big bucks to police piracy, it will probably take a while to get off of youtube, if ever.
