What is hidden in all the hoopla about this gal is her talent. Shame she has to bury it.
As a huge Dolly Parton fan and fellow east TN native I applaud this version of Dolly's classic. Right amount of twang and she doesn't try to fancy it up or overpower the song.
Many have covered Dolly's hits with great success. I just bet Dolly is pleased with this.

Thanks for posting this video, because it shows that Cyrus has talent to spare. She is a good singer with a good expressive range and color and she demonstrated a fine knack for doing comedy on the "Hannah Montana" show for Disney. She does Dolly Parton fine and proud with this version of Jolene. I am afraid, though, that her publicity antics , if she keeps at them for too long, will turn into an over exposed buffoon. It is possible that audiences will just get tired of her and not really care how good a singer (or actress) she is. It will be interesting to see what career choices she makes .

I've never in my life done more than listened to the hook of that song and I've never taken it seriously. I've never taken Ms Cyrus seriously either and her recent twerking antics with Robin "great song, but slightly predatory vid" Thicke, I've just laughed at her for the most part.

I'm actually a little upset that the girl is this good and its all going to go Amy Winehouse.

Brilliant song and performance. I hope she stops being a dickhead and soon.

Well that was an eye opener. My daughter liked her TV show and I'd dismissed her as just another punchcard celebrity from Disney. I'd heard her do some pretty mediocre singing and stopped listening. I hope she finds her way back to the music.

Here's another video from the same sessions, proving she can carry a torch pretty well too.
