While I have seen this before, I can say that this is my desert island kind of stuff. If I was stranded, this would be a song I'd be happy to listen to for a long time...

I always loved Jr Wells harp playing. He's very under-rated as a harp player if you ask me. He has a very distinctive style - short riffs, stacatto notes, and lots of space. He always surprises me - not with what he plays, but with what he doesn't play. He'll play a solo and just when you expect the turnaround, you can almost hear it coming, he just stops playing. Its great!

Now those gentlemen be throwin' down to the max! That kind of soul drives me wild! Thanks for posting this precious piece of music history. If you'd like to listen to one of the best music radio stations around, every Friday night from 10:00p to 12:00p, the Rev Billy C. Wirtz hosts a show on WFIT. You can listen online. The Rev is a musicologist in the blues and gospel genre. Believe me, this guys commentary is a history lesson. Check him out sometime. You won't be sorry. Cheers! Ljz

He's got style, passion, chops and a unique sound. He's a blues man and a giant.

I hate to admit it, but watching Junior Wells nearly made me give up harmonica and take up the trombone:
Nearly.

Seeing Junior had and has the opposite effect on me. It makes me want to work harder. Junior had few peers. Singer, songwriter, harp player, band leader and a very soulful entertainer. He was a very, very rare individual.

This is about the same time I caught Mr. Wells act - It was in a small club though and he had that whole band jammed like sardines behind him - he was dressed to the hilt and delivered the blues like a million dollar preacher :)

That's a pretty special performance. I think Junior Wells might have my favorite blues voice out of anyone ever with the exception of Howlin Wolf. The complete package.

Junior's the man, I dig how he attacks the notes. Hoodoo man blues is one of my favorite albums.
