I think Curtis Salgado is underrated as a harmonica player! Yes it's because his impeccable singing but nevertheless. Please listen to his funky harmonica solo instrumental that starts at 46 minute.

Curtis made an appearance at St. Louis SPAH in 1999 and played a set of more blues. His harmonica playing is world class, but he didn't want to be known as a harp player. He wanted to be known as a singer.

Awesome. I'm guessing Curtis was a big influence on John Popper. I know Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi used to hang with Curtis and they were Popper's first influence.

Maybe there's a back story there?....

Really nice playing and really interesting that his main focus is singing. There's a whole bunch of people out there that you'd give your right arm for their level of ability of their second talent.

I was in Las Vegas this past week for the Sin City Soul & Blues Revival, and saw Curtis and his band play a full set, as well a set of his acoustic harmonica playing with John Wedemeyer, where I shot this video. Curtis Salgado is one of the best harmonica players I have ever seen and heard, and I have seen many of the upper echelon players. His acoustic skills while playing Delta blues are astounding.

Here is a fun video with Salgado on the Blues Brothers, and among other things makes the point that they earned some serious royalties for some of the old blues guys

That acoustic duo clip is a Ph.D. course in harmonica right there. Wow.
