I heard Charlie at a seminar a few years back. I see he is still using the $8.00 Walmart parts bin plastic to store his harps. Cheap harp case.

Charlie is a good friend of my father-in-law, so we see him once in a while. He played at a Picadilly Cafeteria with Barefoot Jerry last year-just to get together with them and play for friends-he's no dive. LOL

The local alternative paper had just run a story that week about Dylan's Nashville Skyline, and the story of Charlie producing it and I talked to him about that some. He said that he had not been in a recording studio in several years-they just email him files and he does his part and sends it back.

Charlie McCoy and the Escorts were the hot band for teenagers in the 60's if one lived here in Nashville,

Basically, he can and has played anything-including the trumpet as sonny pointed out. Back in his band days it was mostly keyboards and harp.

He's a huge ice hockey fan BTW, so if you run into him and want to talk a bit, he'll go for that.

Once, when I was about 15, I was walking around the house jamming & practicing and something came out of my harp that sounded like a Charlie McCoy lick. I remember thinking, "Hot Damn!! That sounded like Charlie McCoy". 35 years later I am starting to think I might have to accept it was a 1 time thing.

He certainly is down to earth and accessible, quick to share his stories of Nashville without ever a hint of his realizing how big a deal American Country Music is and his part in making it so.
