It's not too early to start planning for next year. I'm already planning to attend my first SPAH in 2014, will try to make Hill Country too. What other fests are NOT TO BE MISSED? I've created a facebook site to aid in this discussion: American Bluefests

Living in Indiana, I'm rather fond of the Chicago Blues Fest. I've gone both years I've lived here and loved it both times. The harp blowout that happens at the Windy City Blues Society tent is amazing!

May I recommend the Blind Willie Blues Festival in Thomson Georgia. They hold it every year on the Saturday before Mothers Day. Out in a field, great artists and really incredible food. Here's the link so you can check it out if you are down around Georgia.

I've been to the Blind Willie fest and I agree with Georgia Blues. Highly recommened! I haven't been to the Sonny Boy Blues fest. in a while, but it was the best Blues fest I had been to with nothing coming close! I know it has gone through some changes over legal issues and I don't know if it is even in Helena anymore. Anyone that doesn't live in the South needs to go to a few down there (I know people that live in or around Chicago might not agree). There's just something about going to Clarksdale for a Blues fest. The further you get away from Clarksdale the more Blues Rock and swing and other stuff you here at Blues fests. I don't go to Blues fest to here anything but the Blues! I have heard many people complain about this very thing. Promoters don't dare book real Blues at many places because thier affaid they'll have a bad turn out.

Chicago Blues Fest is a MUST. It's a 3-day free event held in Grant Park. 500,000 people visit the festival over those 3 days.
There are plenty of stages, street acts, and food/drink to keep anyone happy.

Satan & Adam are playing the RiverWalk Blues Fest in Ft. Lauderdale on February 15th.
The King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, Arkansas takes place this year on October 11-12. It's free and there's an awful lot of talent. The least of it is Alan Gross and yrs truly, who will be busking from 3 to 8 PM on 10/11.

The Bean Blossom Blues fest in Nashville, In is the last weekend of August. You camp on site so you never need leave. The main attraction to this fest, besides having acts like Dennis Gruenling, is the camp jams that go on. They spring up throughout Bill Monroe Music Park during the day. But at night, after the bands are done playing....WOW! Jams go on until 4am! This last Bean, after the Friday headliner played, which was Dennis w/ Doug Deming and the Jewel Tones, Dennis showed up for One of the Larger jams and took his turns until 4:30 in the morning!

YES jbone and it's time to start getting ready for year 6. @Adam-most of it is free but the main stage has had a charge for a few years now.
