Took the concept of using Electret Condenser mics a stage further today. I know Suzuki made a small harp mic similar to this some time ago but this is aimed at those of us on a budget. It's dirt cheap to make yourself and the skill level required is about the medium level. The concept has been tried before but the genius bit is the re-purposing of another component part.
The sound is excellent and I don't have feedback issues. I need to run further experiments to test it's full capabilities but at the moment, I'm very impressed with the performance and the hand wahs are really quite impressive.
Comments welcome and appreciated. Thankyou.

tookatooka,
This type of harp mic has been around a while. Ever heard of the Harmonica Honker? Its something like this except it has more sophisticated electronics in the box, including an overdrive circuit. It has the condenser mic mounted on a ring to make it easy to hold, and it has a tiny volume control on the ring.
I think the Madcat Harmonica Mic has a condenser like this, but not 100% sure.
I also believe Suzuki was making one of these for a while, as you said.
The good thing about these mics is the small size, making them easy to hold and cup. You can also get interesting hand wah effects. You'll notice that the effect is opposite of what you get acoustically. When you open your hands with the mic the sound volume decreases.
The down side is that these mics are super clean and produce a lot of high end.
Have fun playing with it and post some more sound samples of it.

Thanks @jpmcbride, I'll check out the Honker and see what that's all about.
I'm getting some astonishing results playing around with this. I'm finding it ideal for recording my harp tune videos and it's fine for voice audio too. I don't forsee it getting any mainstream attention but it's a great solution for the home recorder who may be on a tight budget.
I'll see if I can make some more sample recordings and post them here.
