Good news. In June I posted a request on this forum for information about travelling to the USA later this year. I got a fantastic response from this forum and lots of great ideas and recommendations.
I mentioned in the post that I was hoping to write about my plans and document the trip with an intention to get it published at some point. Well, I'm on my way.
The National Harmonica League in the UK published an article of mine in this quarter's Harmonica World.
Here's a link to my blog post which includes a link to the article. As there are 2 links in this post, I'm hoping there are no technical problems that prevent them opening. Please let me know if this is the case.

Many thanks to all the people who responded to my initial post. I will update the forum on my return.

I'm planning something similar for next year; be very interested to learn from your experience John. You travelling alone? ----------

Hey Bee I have a standing agreement with her indoors that once in my life i have a free pass to go to the States and "do the Blues pilgrimage" She likes the Blues but not the bars ;-) Unless you want to do it on your own ,which is fair enough, I'd be interested in planning a trip. A mate of mine would be keen as well, though he is a Slide player so he would have to be an 'honorary harpist' Just a thought mate. Have you run into Darren Hogwood yet in Tassie?I know he played a festival that you did as well.

Superbee - yes on my lonesome. I like travelling solo. It allows me to be a completely selfish son of a gun and helps me meet new folk. I can go where the music takes me, where the rhythm makes me, cos that's where my destiny is gonna be.
I'll be writing up the trip and hopefully publishing it somehow when I get back. So, I'll update you then. My email address is in the article if you wanna keep in touch separately.

John, way to go. thanks for the like, and i'll drop you a note.
J'phat, good thought and if i was otherwise travelling alone Id probably be up for it, but i think I'll be accompanied by my GF, and quite possibly my 16yo daughter. That will seriously cramp my style, but it's probably a given this time. I chose 2014 because my ol' buddy Bob and I both turn 50 next year. He is a firey down in Opelika Alabama. I haven't decided yet whether to time the trip to coincide with his 50th birthday. That was my original thought, but he is a very family-focused man and I'm sure that will be a family thing rather than getting on a reunion rip with old mates. In any case, as soon as I mentioned it, he was very keen to come pick me up from Memphis and drive me around, so I think it's probably gonna be that kind of family/old mates trip. If I don't do the birthday thing, I think I'll aim for May and include HCH. I'm thinking this trip will lay the groundwork for future visits, but there are many dependencies have to come together for that. Darren Hogwood I have not (to my knowledge) met. Was he at Cygnet? Thats a folk festival. i played in the street there and I did speak to a guy from a band playing the festival, whose name I did not catch...long odds On 'net I see he is a guitarist based in Devonport and played at Forth Valley Blues Festival. That's the main 'blues' festival here. I've not played that festival, it's been on the cards but hasn't happened.
