I have been experimenting with increasing the gain, I have pulled the au7 tube…. Currently using Ay7 Ay7 5751 in the phase inverter slot
the au7 is a great sounding tube for sure, the current set up is much louder which can be beneficial when playing large venues or out doors. I also have been trying various Overdrive pedals with mixed results. Here is a recording with a “rat” overdrive. It is a little much, especially because the battery was dying. But I kinda like it. I also have a tube overdrive that works quite well. A friend of mine has a lonesome wolf octave pedal, very much looking forward to giving that a test drive.
I hit a few bad notes, the tune is in Am and I hit an F# a few times Not sure if that is legal lol Also some of the notes were sticking That is never good

Great to be able to switch tubes, not expensive per say,and always come in handy. You sound like a confident player willing to live on the edge of improv, and I go for that. As of late I'm trying to dial in a Princeton Reverb, and going to cut my gain, with an AY7 or 5751 just to see if that special sound I'm after comes out.The 3 AX7's cut well, with treble 1 to 3,and bass 8 to 10,and with that does not usually sound that trebly, and gets me heard through some mod. vol. level guitar.
That being said I have used the lw pedals, and mxr delay to tailor or voice the amp different.Definately take the lw octave for a spin,I keep it at 12 or less with vol. and blend, and can hear some nice punch with it.I am not pimping lw,but like their products, especially harp attack on the big hg50,and princeton for that matter. In other words I spent the big bucks, got some good pedals, and now can try some tube subs.Bottom line is more gain can be good,up to that screech level,I guess we can all hear that.
Funny how we all hear different, guitar buddy says you need some compression, cranks up lw delay v2 2/2/5 dam near pegging it thought it would be messy, voila compression on a cm mike good for rock.

The more gain, the harder feedback is to control, and the more it feels like a 3 position switch: too soft, very loud, and feedback. ---------- *************************************************** /Greg

I use a Tech 21 Blonde to the PA. I have it set up like a clean Bassman. I then use a Lone Wolf HarpBreak for an OD pedal. It adds a good amount of crunch/mids and sounds very bluesy.
The trick here, is I use an SM58 as a mic. By itself, it doesn't hit the HB hard enough to cause over the top distortion. To remedy this, I use a LW Flat Cat with the volume turned up. That makes the mic much "hotter" going into the HB.
The added benefit of the FC too, is the compression and creating a less tinny sound straight to the PA.
What I find with the 58 right to a monitor is that there are big lows and highs...it sounds to high fi and wide. The compressor adds a lot of meat to the middle of the tone, if that makes sense. ---------- Mantra Customized Harmonicas My Website

Mike, I watched a YouTube video of the Tech 21 Blonde with guitar. WOW! Very cool. Can you put up a harp demo with that pedal alone?

At some point, yes. Basically, though, with a clean mike, all the controls are very harp friendly. You can't assume you'll set them like a real amp, however.
For example, I can get low end feedback with the bass above noon, but still get a solid bottom end with it at like 11 o'clock.

first of all i am using a kinder anti feed backer + without that, some of these experiments would go bust rather quickly mark ford is using a high gain amp with a high gain mic and he gets a loud clear signal. i am trying to approximate that sound using a butler tube overdrive. still have a ways to go. we did try out the lone wolf octave with the kinder and the lower gain tubes it worked better than all the other experiments, very nice sound. i should just buy one they are not at all expensive "why but the cow when the milk is free" lol there is a guy at the swap meet selling tubes he asks me what i am looking for i tell him 12ax7 he says you and everyone else ha asks me what i need them for so i tell him he says he has a few if he can just find them he will save them for me. he seems to be at the swap meet mostly to socialize and get outside. someone asked him how much for a tube he says i dont know whats fair? thirty cents? he was only joking.... he obviously wanted a dollar it has been quite some time since i have used 3... 12ax7's in my amp not sure if i will get to many opportunities to play at that volume. that tech 21 pedal sound very nice. what sort of hardware do you need to use that on the computer?
