I switched out the 12AX7 for a 5751 tube today, and I am quite pleased with the result. The tone is less harsh, and the feedback seems to be reduced as well. Thanks to Rick and Greg for this advise.

Next, I am considering changing the speaker to an Eminence Lil Buddy. The speaker costs around $80 so it is not a small change. My question: is the speaker change worth it in terms of tone and loudness?

As always, I appreciate your advise and time.

Garry- is the Lil Buddy appreciably louder than the stock speaker?

The Lil Buddy speaker will be somewhat louder, with much improved tone.

I made the same changes. 5751 for the 12ax7 and Li Buddy for stock speaker. The speaker swap will result in slighlty more volume. The Lil Buddy will make the tone more mellow . Loudness is not an issue. It's a question of tone and taste. The stock speaker is good. After a while I actually took out the lil buddy and swapped it for a smooth cone jensen 1952 speaker P10S. I liked the sound of it so the Jensen stayed. I think the Jensen had more cut then the Lil Buddy. It really depends what you're looking for. I wanted something with a little more cut because I play with a band. You can't go wrong with the Lil Buddy but it may or may not suit your taste. If it doesn't sell it and try another speaker.

I like the JJ Tesla 6V6S in this amp. It has a big warm 6L6-ish sound.

@ rarko, I also swapped out the 6V6 power tube with a vintage GE tube. I thought it sounded better. It's a great amp either way. Rick's demonstrations convinced me to buy the amp.

Rick has been a bad influence on me. Thanks Rick. LOL.
