No, sorry, no voluptuous blondes in swimsuits splashing away. I know that was what you hoped for when clicking this thread (FMWoodeye, I'm looking at you!). Just me playing by the lake. Big Walter Horton's instrumental in key of F. Backing track by shoblues. Recorded with mic to ampkitlink to iphone. Virtual guitaramp app called ampkit. Mixed in audacity.
I know that Frank posted a thread about this song some time back as a piece to hone your subtle techniques on. This song is really nice to get feeling into your playing. Nuances. The melody is really simple and laidback with lots of use of the major sixth. This is probably the first song I do all tongueblocked. It just didn't sound right lipblocked when I tried it. Anyway. Here it is. Enjoy! I always appreciate feedback of any kind!

The bends are a bit iffy on the B part of the tune (around 2:00 min); otherwise great job.

Very nicely done, you ole pistol cat.
On a side note: tell me what it's like to shake your head the way you do, please. Whenever I see a harp player do that I get a sympathetic headache. I move my hands to get those trills, and can't imagine shaking my head that way.
Again, very nice job of it.

Thanks guys! @Martin- the bends are a bit iffy indeed. Long tremoloed double two bends. Tough shit! :) there's a lot of bending on 2 and 3 draw going on in that chorus. @harp-er - I had to shake my head! I just couldn't coordinate my hands to do that extended shaking. Funny how we are wired sometimes. :) to get the shake sound I wanted I released the cup and had a very loose, double hole embouchure with a relaxed tongue that kind of shakes along and gave a bit of added tremolo/warble/piston sound.
Thanks all for listening! For those interested; Dave Barrett have a killer tab and notes out for free. Google easy, song study, Barrett. I'll post a link later, I'm on my phone right now. ---------- Pistolkatt - Pistolkatts youtube

I was pretty impressed with the audio quality going into the iPhone - that's your modern twist on an old classic.
You strike me as someone who already knows where they need to improve. Looking forward to hearing your next improvement.

@Pistolcat: I´m not sure if you´re looking for advice, so please take this in the best way -- I don´t wanna come off as a busybody. But I honestly think you just have to lighten the attack a bit on those bends: you´re going to deep, too much force.
And don´t give a f*kh about what people will say about "the bends should be coming from way down in the throat"; "No from the front of your mouth!"; "No from your rectum!" etc, that will work out.
As I understand it you´ve been playing just a few years (?) and if so your progress is really impressive.

very nice 5 stars woo-hoo i have lots of questions sounded like a cr element? does the amplink use a 1/4 inch jack? how hard is it to mix on audacity? what settings did you use with amp kit does it only work with apple hardware?
i try to work the "easy riff" on every song i can it seems to fit almost anywhere ---------- third times a charm!

Thanks s-harp and ridge. More work on the low bends coming up. I'm going to start working a bit on first position. A lot of workout on that two hole. Need to get some more time on the low bends tongue locked too. @ Martin - call it as you see it. I won't be offended. I did this piece as a song study. That is, I tried to really play it the way big Walter did. He attacks those suckers hard! More in pitch, that is true, but fierce attack! If I would have done a alteration, I'd have tried o start with two scoopes/dip-bend on the two double bend to two natural instead of hitting those honking double bends thrice. That way you can get away with a bit of pitch adjustment on the fly.
@1847- CM element from 1974- allegedly from blowsmeaway according arnenym who I bought it from. Amp link have indeed a 1/4 inch input jack and a headphone output jack. Audacity is easy but the only mixing I made was minor volume adjustments... I used the vintage Brit amp in ampkit a lot of bass and half treble, noise gate and the echology pedal for reverb. Any hardware will do. It's peavey who makes the ampkitlink but (allegedly) apogee, irig and others will work... The mic on the hands free will work without the ampkitlink but it'll sound crap.
@took- cheers mate!

Hey Pistolkat, 1 thing I must remark on is the tremolo you have going. Very cool! I play this song also and I know the tremolo is desirable...probably the main reason to play it really, as an exercise in developing that skill. You have it working really well in parts of that song...3rd chorus I think, when you come out of the shakes back to tremolo, and another spot too I noticed it was very fast strong and smooth. ----------

Yes! The tremolo is the secret ingredient in this song! More so because it is really a bit fast tremolo, hurried almost. It creates a kind of tempo-tension thats very cool. I tried my best to emulate big Walters changes: on some place he increase and in some he decrease and almost stutters the tremolo. Cool shit! The place where Walter goes from shake to tremolo in third chorus is dead cool. Just a piece of blues mastery. I saw that Barrett noted this too. His tab is really good and along with the notes it really helped me iron out the last of picking out notes part...

Just for the heck...i actually have some video of me playing this song too...(edit: I posted it in its own thread rather than hijack PistolKat's, and this post disappeared while I was trying to delete it. I thought it deleted but then it reappeared. Spam net I suppose..

Thank you, BronzeWailer! You should do this in your busking setup! A perfect instrumental as a "cool-vibes" song!
@ Arnenym - The mic is a beuty! I have played it some witha a VHT 6 I bought from Johan Hörnfeldt. Sweeeeeet! Now I need a mixing table to get it all miced up..
@ Superbee - I really like your version! I'm also in awe on how you posted before arnenym but have your post below but the forum had him as last poster (well before this). Almost missed your post. Very Sneaky! ---------- Pistolkatt - Pistolkatts youtube
