Great to hear from Todd! My theory is that there is no reed interaction. The draw reed does the ob.. It,s like firmly holding a ruler down and plinking what's hanging over the edge. The pitches are endless as you plink less hanging over, but it becomes more difficult or impossible as it shortens.With only one reed working the vibrating part must shorten. Anyone else wanna guess?

"I may be wrong here, but from what I understand, a reed will only bend or overblow according to it's corresponding reed."
Overblows and overdaws are single reed phenomenon. For example, in an overblow, the blow reed is choked and silent, all sound comes from the draw reed. In this way, they're more like valved (i.e., single reed) bends than normal unvalved bends where the two reeds interact and limit the depth of the bend.

Tmf..not sure why he thinks some holes can bend up more than others?

Yep - nice chart, Tom. Thanks for posting.
It's similar to my findings in my presentation from SPAH, though I can take the 4OB up to a G, and can take the overdraws up further:
7(B) --> C#-D-Eb-E 8(D --> F-F#-G-Ab-A 9(F) --> Ab-A-Bb-B-C 10(A) --> C#-D-Eb (E?)
Who knows? They may go up even further... but would be pretty useless in my opinion.

My guess is this: The trick to bend a overblow up a long way is: there is no trick. You just do it. Good support, knowing what you aim for, dividing all efforts to sound the draw reed and none to choke your blow reed, and a killer harp.
That said: I can bend a six OB up a whole step to seven blow. No further I think but I haven't tried it with a tuner.
Edit: Hah! Not a very helpful post :P ---------- Pistolkatt - Pistolkatts youtube

Unlurking just to say: Lordy, what a great thread! It's amazing to work through this stuff with so many different levels of players; it makes learning much easier to approach.
Thanks to everyone. (And this from someone who doesn't OB!)

FatJesus! YOU, my friend are the reason I post my amateur videos and challenge others and contradict and ask others to post videos. The more we grow the harmonica world the better off we all are. It was worth my time and effort, right or wrong, if you gained some knowledge about this most awesome instrument. YOU made my day FatJesus!
