So, we did a recording at rehearsal of the next giglist. Very basic, a couple of mics and one take through 25 songs, just to get a listen if taiming and groove works, so the solos are short, my focus was on backing. The drummer had business elsewhere so it's just guitar, bass and harp. We played really low volume, almost at acoustic level ... my Gibson GA-90 was played at absolute minimum volume, so the tone is a bit weak ...
(EDITED: Tried to embed, but the player seem to autostart on my computer. Sorry about that. )
1st pos playing(A) I'd like some feedback, since I've been working on getting my 1st pos in working order, specially when backing
Well, I guess I threw in a 3rd pos too (G)...
and why not a 2nd pos (E)

Great playing! The two first songs didn't really miss the drums, IMO. I'm not really fit to specific advice on backing, but it sounded really good! On the first track I especially liked the harp on the chorus that started at 2:55. On the second track there was really nice octave playing that filled and really fatted up the sound image. You're one of those players that use more nuances than notes. If one were to tab the playing out the tab would be four lines and the liner notes would be two pages. "At note one add a bit of tongue pull and slightly vibrato that goes in to a slightly added doublestop..."
Great songs all! ---------- Pistolkatt - Pistolkatts youtube

Pistol ... thnx for taking your time and thnx for your input. Yes, I've been working on boiling my playing down, " less is more", "making every played note count" but there is still work to do, like leaving more periods of space. Interresting though, shaving off and boiling down my playing has really lifted my fast playing and my tone.

@S-harp "I've been working on boiling my playing down" yeah! me too. I've come to the conclusion that the song sounds a whole lot better if I don't play at all :) Enjoyed what you were doing.

Good stuff. And I think you´re on the right side of boiling down but not boiling dry. Esp. liked the first tune, and some inroads to the mid octave -- too much 1 pos playing miss that.
Seem to recollect that you´re another Swede? Is there a name to this unit, if you´re ever playing Gothenburg? (Just so I can stand in the audience, of course, honking wildly on an out of tune harp in the wrong key. I just love that.) /Martin

\ Martin ... Thnx for your input. Yes, mid octave in first pos, a bit of a challange ... Ahh, Gothenburg! Great city, lived there for a year .... long time ago... never played there though ... mainly because there're to many in the G-burg audience playing out of tune harps (-: ---------- The tone, the tone ... and the Tone

Very nice S-Harp! So bluesy. I am not knowledgeable enough to comment on the playing other than to say I really like it. I especially like your philosophy of playing less - sure wish more musicians subscribed to it (especially guitar players).

@S-harp: Yeah, those Gothenburg bastards can be quite a nuisance. But if you´re coming this way just shoot me a line and I´ll make sure to attend the gig and krossa pungkulorna on those guys. (Sadly , that can make a bit of an annoying noice as well ...)

Thanks for the links, at least the first 2 worked. Especially liked the 1st position playing, something I have not messed with too much. Gives me something to shoot for.

cyklodan ... thnx for taking your time to listen. Yes, first position is a great position ... I' ve just stepped out of the woodshed and started to use 1st position live and in studio. ---------- The tone, the tone ... and the Tone

@S-Harp
I like what you're doing on the harp on #1 Don’t Ever Let Nobody Drag Your Spirit Down.
Is my first cut rough analysis correct?
Main riff guitar line: 1 b7 5
A Harp in 1st riffs:
4b 3D*(b7 1st bend) 6B/or 3B or 2D(Mirrors main line above)
2nd Riff 2D** 2D 2D** 2B 1B
Nice tone too!

Komuso ... Tabin' this is both easy and tricky ... I just suck at tabing, but I'll give it a shot ... I guess you are talking about the intro ... The harp doesn't follow the guitar nor the bassline ... I tried to keep it "typical 1st pos" Therefore I don't work the mid octave ... well, I guess a passage in the mids still slipped through and an ob 4 ... The intro part is only working holes 1 to 4 ... The root A is pretty much always a split octave 1 'n 4. I usually land on B1 tounge blocking played left, so i can double up with octave 4 blocking played right. Hole 2 'n 3 I tried to work as simple as possible and instead work frasing, taiming and tone ... during the intro I slide around between 2D .... 2D** ... 3D* .... some 2B Working the 2D's bends happens alot. The tab ( intro) would probably look something like this, just the order of the notes ... 2D-2D**( work the bend)- 2B-1B-4B 3D*-4B - 2D2D - 3D* 2D**- 2D work the bend - 2D** -2B -1B-4B ...
