I recently bought a VHT Special 6, with which I am quite happy. Unfortunately, it is not loud enough for the loud jams. Can a line out be installed, and is this the proper way to go? After all, I would then be at the mercy of the PA, which might not even be available at some jams.
Should I bite the bullet and buy a Mission Chicago or similar? What is the best giggable amp for blues jams? The Mission seems to be highly thought of, but is pretty expensive. Opinions from you experts are much appreciated.

John, consider the new Mission Delta Sonic. It is 15 watts, great tone, and has a line out. I played it last Sunday at a loud jam at Ziggies in Denver. The volume was half way up and it was lined out to the the PA. I could hear the amp, and the audience could hear me through the PA. I got great compliments on the sound.

The problem with using really small amps lined out to the PA is that they may not be loud enough for you to hear yourself, and you don't want your harp in the monitors because it can bring on bad feedback problems.

The amp is $869. Here is a video of Nic Clark playing the amp a month ago. I don't think it was lined out here.

A line out for the Spec6 is one of the mods I describe at the site below-

Jims line out works superbly in the VHT. You may still find that 5 watts is hard to hear onstage with a loud band though.

I had a line out installed in a Special 6 but still experience feedback problems when trying to be heard over a loud band.
I'm now playing directly through the pa and I don't love the tone but at least I can be heard.

I think a bigger amp will be the ultimate solution but the Special 6 does sound great.

If you're playing direct into the PA, try a Lone Wolf Harp Attack or Harp Break. Very good amped sound indeed.
