I'm learning pretty quickly I got Blowin' in the Wind almost down and I got a blues riff down. For some reason Love me Do is harder than the Bob Dylan song for me.
I made some pretty weak attempts and bending notes I'm scared to break my harp. (seems silly I know) I also have trouble just getting one note at a time still but its getting better.
Still working on the train too.
for anyone that cares to know

Love Me Do is actually kinda tricky. John Lennon may have used a non ordinary diatonic harmonica.
It has been discussed on other forums.
Sandy Weltman has recently published a very good book that includes harmonica and CD...Learn to Play Harmonica
http://www.amazon.com/Learn-Play-Harmonica-Music-Bibles/dp/0785829083
I can personally endorse it, having actually read the book.
Very nicely done and easy to comprehend. ---------- The Iceman

Did you know Delbert McClinton taught the harp part to Lennon? I think it is on HarpTabs.com and I think he talks about how the song is played on Youtube.

Honestly I don't know who those people are you guys named I really want to get into the blues so a buddy of mine is supposed to let me borrow some CDs.
The main reason I picked up the harp is Black Sabbath Neil young Bob Dylan Old Crow Medicine Show The Devil Makes Three The Beatles and Led Zeppelin all have awesome harp in some of there songs. (Bob Dylan and Neil Young in like every song though)
I do on the other hand have a Blind Willie McTell album and I know a few lead belly songs. The band that sort of pointed me in his direction is Nirvana with there cover of where did you sleep last night.
oh and lets not forget orange blossom special (johnny cash its awesome)
I'm sure I'm forgetting people but that's pretty much it.

I enjoy working from the covers and going backwards in time. to find the earliest recordings I can. For example, In the Pines (Where did you sleep last night), originally recorded by Leadbelly, can be found on You Tube. Another example is Black Betty, covered as a one-hit wonder by RamJam, also originally recorded by Leadbelly.
Anyway, have fun.

30 years later...
I think that Delbert Mclinton story doesn't hold water but there may be a little aspect of truth in it. What's the tricky part of love me do? I haven't listened for ages, but I recall the opening lines are straightforward on a diatonic, is there more than one part? Maybe there is...that's possibly why I only learned the opening lines. I'd forgotten how many of the early Beatles records have harmonica; it really was a distinctive part of the sound at first. Seriously Silverharp, I can believe you don't know who Delbert McLinton is, but John Lennon? I guess he died a long time ago... ----------
