Hey, just wanted to thank all the knowledgable harp techs on this site for all the advice that helped me tune up my collection of Hohner GM's. I'd been forced to take 3 weeks off from playing for health reasons and got into cleaning, drilling, bolting and gapping all of my harps. It was fun and an education in teeny technology. 1.5 hex wrench, 2mm tap, 16th" and 8th' drill, a little oil and a gapping tool and it after a little hyper ventilation it all worked out OK. I recommend the experience to anybody with a knack with hand tools. I do have one question. I had a really old GM with tacked in covers. The kind with a comb that required drilling to open up the cover holes to accept the newer bolt arrangement. Darn near ruined it and the drill bits trying to drill it out. anybody have advice on how to drill plastic? ----------

The best thing to do with that Golden Melody (In my opinion) is to throw it as far as you can or run over it with your car.
However, you can remove those pins/nails with some flush cut pliers or a grinding disc on a rotary tool. After 4 hours of work, you could have mowed lawns and made enough to buy 3 new ones that play better. I'm sure buried somewhere in the years Hohner made the GMs with pins there were some good ones, but I sure haven't run across any. ---------- Greg Jones 16:23 Custom Harmonicas greg@1623customharmonicas.com 1623customharmonicas.com
