Does anybody know what harmonicas are used in James Cottons 23 hours too long from the High Compression album?

That's the first thing I learned on a Hohner Chrometta 8 but I suspect Cotton was using a higher quality chromatic in C. 3rd position. I may be mistaken. ---------- http://www.reverbnation.com/jawboneandjolene

yeah i've seen pictures of James Cotton for this album with a Hohner super chromonica. however there seems to be a diatonic C harp used for the solo that has the bends, then it sounds like he returns to the chromatic for the rest of the song.

Song is in the key of D- Cotton is playing a C Chromatic in third position. Some of the solos he is using a C diatonic in third postion-2:12 and 3:05.

Wow guys! Thanks for the help. I figured that was how it was played. Now i dont have to blow my lungs out trying to bend like that on a chromatic. i just recently figured out what 3rd position means. nice new way to play really sad tunes.

@ Joelvis- you got that right! And yes Cotton did switch back and forth. He is one of the top guys who have informed my playing in recent years. It's funny, you think you know something and when you go back and listen to it by the original guy and compare what you do to that, it can be so far apart. One thing I have discovered in all the years I have played harp: there is more to learn even now! ---------- http://www.reverbnation.com/jawboneandjolene

It's such a great song. I'm surprised he never plays it live. Hoping to see him again this summer at the Dutch Mason Blues Festival.

If i'm not mistaken, 3rd position is also used by Sonny Boy (Rice Miller) in "Trust my Baby" . I was obsessed with learning that song as well. What an emotional sound that song has!
