Found this on an obscure web site...
Bacon Fat was a band led by harmonica player Rod "Gingerman" Piazza and featuring Buddy Reed (guitar, vocals), Gregg Schaefer (guitar), J.D. Nicholson (vocals, piano), Jerry Smith (bass), and Dick Innes, Jr. (drums). They were signed to the British Blue Horizon label and made two albums before breaking up in the early '70s.

Gingerman? Not bad. Of course, you and Hawkeye and Hakan (The Hawk) have cool nicknames. Fat Melon Woodeye, not so much. Now that I've picked the trombone back up to be a more versatile component of a more versatile band, one of the guys has taken to calling me Napoleon Boneandharp. I have neither encouraged nor discouraged him. I am hoping it doesn't stick, because the possibilities of it morphing into something distasteful are distressing, i.e., Nappy, Boner. Maybe I'll start wearing my eyepatch to rehearsals.

Before that the Dirty Blues Band. A good friend of mine has the original vinyl.
It was a great blues band, Rod was still in his teens, his playing on the album is very raw, but you can tell he had the grease to become the best.

During the Chicago Flying Saucer Band years, Piazza is listed with the rather unique name of "Record Store Ron."
could be a typo record store rod?
going to see jr watson later today

iceman...great tidbit of trivia on Rod...coool
and FMWoodeye...very funny story. Hard to control, when people think it sounds better, than you do.
And 1847...!!! so cool. Thanks for posting that little nugget, too.
Now I have to get a nickname...oh. I got one already.
