One sure way for me to NOT call you by your nickname, say to me "Call me _____".
Which come to think of it works well if you don't like your nickname, just tell me to call you it. Then again, the one carve out to the rule is if I find out you hate it. Then nothing can keep me from calling you it. ...................Well, unless I like you.
In any case as Hondo noted......NO SELF GLOSSING!
(PS: I mean Ebbie Calvin LaLouche had to wait for his baseball groupie/girlfriend Annie, to remark that his libido made him a "regular nuclear meltdown" before he became Nuke LaLouche, and even the great George Costanza couldn't get the world to call him T-Bone)

Bobo, you are so right. For decades I disliked the nickname I got everywhere I went: "Little Ricky." I tried to encourage other nicknames people bestowed but they never stuck. I was always Little Rick for obvious reasons. I finally just said wtf. Little Rick it is.

Boxcar Joe Strouzer, given to me by my former band leader after "shaking Boxcar Joe" who gets a mention in Wang Dang Doodle which we covered.
The name stuck after I started doing train songs and I used to tell folks that was why they called me Boxcar.
Recently got chastised by a young American street musician visiting London who said I shouldn't wear the moniker if I hadn't hoboed, so then he called me Boxcar Bertha for a while...
